Palm's latest is out

CBS Sports bracketology

He still has BU above KU. His reasoning, he says, is mainly is Kansas' loss to IU. With as close as the teams are w/ RPI, Kansas has head-to-head, win Kansas leads the conference, KU's true road win (UK) is way better than Baylor's (TCU).

There isn't much separation, but Palm might be the only serious bracketer to have them in that order.

He's such a flipping moron. He has Oklahoma State vs TCU in a play in game. o_O

He expects zero mid majors to get at large bids and yet he has Gonzaga as a 2 seed and St. Mary's as a 6 seed.

It's almost like he just throws **** against the wall all year long with half of it not even being coherent.

Maybe he doesn't consider gonzaga a mid-major and is picking st. Mary's to win the WCC tourney?

More likely that in January he just spends five minutes on it and doesn't bother to proofread or double check what he writes.

I hadn't noticed that.

To be fair, if I recall the bracketing rules correctly, there's not a rule against having two teams from same conference matched in a play-in, and I assume the committee wouldn't do that unless it was unavoidable, such as more than 2 of 4 First Four at-larges being from same league, which is exactly what he has here, with ISU, TCU and OSU as 3 of 4 play-ins.

So I'll cut him slack there, I guess.

From realism perspective, though, I don't think it's common to have so little in-conference separation so more than two teams wind up on same seed line. I know Big 8 had three 3-seeds one season (maybe 1991?) and I'm sure there are other examples, seems infrequent.

I sense you are suspicious of Terps' profile?

Either that, or you always root against Md :)
They remind me of that year New Mexico got a 3 seed. They barely beat the 14 seed and then got hammered by the 11 seed.

I'm impressed that voters aren't just looking at the Terps record, you would expect a Big Ten team that is 20-2 to be in the top 5, but they are more appropriately ranked #17.

Bold viewpoint at this stage. I'll have to dig further to see how much I agree, or don't agree, but I like it.

At this stage in the season, how can you hold a loss to a team like that on a neutral floor in the first week of the season against KU so much?

I agree with you about that and regardless of when the loss happened. I won't dispute it has impact. That looked "better" at the time it happened because IU was more like a 3/4 seed projection early, and Indiana's profile has dropped, but it's still in 9/10/11-ish area, despite a yuck-ish RPI.

I'd take pretty much any seed with perhaps the play in game being the only thing I wouldn't want since I don't consider that the real tournament (even though, yes, they call the round of 32 the 3rd round--I don't care!).

The play in game is fine if we win it!

They (thankfully) rescinded the renaming of rounds a couple of seasons ago, so it's First Four, then First Round (round-of-64) and so on, as it should be.

A Bilas quote either last season or season before that still amuses me (loosely quoting): "The tournament has First Four, which has 8 teams, and the Final Four, which is 4 teams."

I see all of this as nothing but positive. Iowa State has started to gain traction as a national program. Even viewed through my rose colored glasses I would put ISU as a fringe bubble team. What we have to worry about is all of those lower-to-mid major conference tournaments and hope there aren't a ton of upsets to shrink the bubble. Either that or ISU has to start winning some games (my preferred choice).

This is so funny to me. The huge meltdown after the Vanderbilt game where a good population of CF'ers are CONVINCED we are out of the tournament after such a terrible sad loss. Yet here we are after a second loss in a row and WHAT? What do you have to say now?

This a good lesson for anyone that wants to go back through all of the basketball threads post-Vandy and see who knows what they are talking about when it comes to CBB and the NCAA tourney and who has no clue.
