I think they're second highest enrollment in the COUNTRY. Not sure who is #1, or if they have a big web-based enrollment that would factor into that.

Arizona St. is #1. I think last fall (2012), they both topped 60,000! But how web and satellite campuses fit in, I don't know...

The University of Phoenix has like 250,000 students plus a really nice football stadium (well... sort of). We should invite them.

The Big 12 Expansion Index: Wake Me Up When It’s All Over | FRANK THE TANK'S SLANT

In summary, Frank the Tank created a "Big 12 Expansion Index" to determine potential future Big 12 teams (or why the Big 12 shouldn't expand). His index is a point system comprised of the following categories (with their corresponding possible total max points awarded):

Football Brand Value: 30 points
National TV Value: 15 points
Local TV Value: 10 points
Demographics/Recruiting Value: 20 points
Academics: 5 points
Basketball Value: 5 points
Geographic Fit/Need: 5 points
Tremendous Upside Potential/Monopoly Power: 10 points

He also makes the assumptions that 1) these potential moves must be made like a university president might think, not a local sports fan or even a coach or AD, and 2) The Big 12 lacks the ability to raid another power conference.

So, Frank's potential Big 12 expansion candidates (from worst to best) are (with total Index score):

ALL HAT, NO CATTLE
Rice - 35
UNLV - 37
Colorado State - 43
Southern Methodist - 43
New Mexico - 45
Houston - 48
Memphis - 49

INTRIGUING, BUT NOT PRACTICAL
Boise State - 52
Temple - 53
Connecticut - 57

NEEDS WORK, BUT KEEP AN EYE ON THEM
Tulane - 58

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
South Florida - 63
Central Florida - 65
San Diego State - 67

THE ONLY CHOICES TODAY
Brigham Young - 75
Cincinnati - 90

Just for the hell of it. UCF and Cincinnati join. Not BYU since they don't want to go 3 time zones.

North Division
Cincinnati
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
Oklahoma State
West Virginia

South Division
Baylor
Oklahoma
TCU
Texas
Texas Tech
UCF

You'd protect the Bedlam game cross-division but you wouldn't really need to protect anything else.

Not a huge fan. No reason to expand now.

None of those schools, with the possible exception of BYU, come close to providing $25M of value annually to Fox and ESPN, which is the minimum the networks would have to pay for expansion without diluting payouts to existing B12 schools.

Given the expansion candidates in that list, the only reason to expand now would be if some school seriously wanted out of the Big Ten or SEC.

I would include the ACC or PAC-12 also...

I am moving to Destin, FL at the end of this month and would love to see teams like Florida State, Central Florida, Georgia Tech, etc... in the Big 12.

I still think we are going to see some schools get more and more agitated at their current situations in the Big 10, SEC and ACC. Once we see GOR's ending I think we may see some moves. Do you really think that Big 10 Midwest schools are going to enjoy playing mainly each other for the next 20 years? Think LSU and Arkansas are going to put with with the SEC and their ridiculous scheduling?

I would rather not add smaller schools in talent rich areas as we would just be getting worse players in those markets as many would just choose them rather than us. Take for instance, if we added central Florida, they already get better classes than us but we can compete for Florida recruits with them now. If we added them, it may slide overwhelmingly to them as we don't have a premier conference to boast. Might not make a difference but it could.

GORs are not intended to expire. They are meant to be renewed for additional lengths of time prior to their expiration.

Another reason that Oliver Luck would be a good choice for UT AD. He may not want to stick it to WVU in as few years.
