Hard to get kicked out from AAu, hard to get in. Not that much movement except for Nebby when they did not count research at UNMC. The govt is cutting research dollars back about 10% due to sequestration. I think FSU is applying but probably will not be AAU in the end. It is a party school.

Didn't Syracuse leave soon after NU got the boot?

The part about realignment that some forget is the real money in the B1G is in the CIC. Membership there is automatic w/ B1G membership, right? Plus University of Chicago. But why would they want to share further with another institution that isn't up to their high academic standards? Almost like CIC is more elite than AAU, if you can't get in to AAU, why would they want you in CIC? (AAU isn't a problem for ND, but the stem-cell research that CIC member institutions take part in might be...)

If I remember correctly, Syracuse voluntarily left the AAU the same time Nebraska did.

Syracuse resigned rather than get tossed out like Nebraska when it became clear that they would have been evicted just as the Huskers were.

Methinks these WVU guys are trolling some of you...

I tend to agree, but I'm still concerned with 10 and the lack of a conference network. The Big 12 seems to be swimming against the tide a little.

Once the SEC Network comes on board, the Big 10 network gets a new deal....a good chunk of the Big 12 will be earning considerably less than the current BCS schools. I guess the lower earners won't be the schools in a position to blow up the league

They were facing a forced ouster, like NU, but decided to avoid the bad publicity and "voluntarily" withdraw. The AAU doesn't like for a school to receive too high a portion of their research grants that aren't subject to competitive peer review.

You guys should seriously stop following/posting info from that idiot from West Virginia. Do you like enabling a moron with a megaphone?

You cannot apply, you get invited to join. Georgia Tech was last school invited. For every one in one goes, is the current thinking. Syracuse and nebby left (cuse would have got the boot) it takes 2/3 vote to get in or kicked out. Based on internal standings Kansas and mizzou would be next in line to get the hatchet. They dont count land grant formula/block research grants in there equation which hurts us a bit too but we seem in solid ground for a while. Tech is trying to bolster there resume to be considered too but wvu is not even close to the caliber of school. I think big Ten is building an aau voting block so one of their own can never get kicked out (just need 20 votes). Texas former president is head of the aau and why nebby thinks they were kicked out...
No way fsu gets in, but bet they go big 10...got to get someone to get to 16.

BTN announced last night and again this morning that the B1G has notified FSU that they have "no interest". The difference here is that it is the CONFERENCE saying "no interest" rather than the school.

Looks like FSU is checking out their options.

BIG? No
SEC? No.
B12? Checking.
ACC? Maybe.

Where else is this being reported, besides MHver3's Twitter?

I'm preferring his more optimistic outlook to the Dude's doom and gloom (which could be my perception, too...)

I saw all the Twitter rumors yesterday that the BTN reported that, but it's nowhere to be found on their website and a network like ESPN would have picked up on it.

I'm calling BS that BTN reported anything.

MHver3 and the Dude have been conflicting on it since yesterday afternoon. The Dude insists the B1G hasn't voted, that they're trying to sway the remaining hold-outs (Michigan and Wisconsin.) MHver3 has been saying that the B1G explicitly told FSU "thanks, but no."

I doubt both and/or bet there's some truth to both... The whole "FSU's 5yr AAU plan" seems way too far fetched. I'd prefer the B1G continue to take mediocre FB programs and eventually we'll see the BTN bubble burst. Maybe we'll finally get al a carte cable, or the internet streams will make it irrelevant. I'm thinking like how it went record companies/stores to Napster/free-downloads to iTunes/Amazon model. When was the last time you visited a Musicland? Sam Goody? Let the content pirates save college athletics! :jimlad:

(and the jimlad is dual purpose there!)
