Nobody said that ISU is a turd. Thinking that ISU might not be the defacto choice for a merger/expansion candidate from the Big 12 after OU/UT/KU != thinking ISU is a turd.
and they are religous...a pac no no, not that this scenario is eve a remote posibility.I imagine Baylor and TCU look more expendable than ISU when you've got UT in your stable.

Wrong.... have you not noticed which schools not going to the big 12 have gotten recent upgrades to PAC, SEC and B1G...all aau. Its a major consideration they have a network and want households, baylor and tcu deliver nothing for that, are religious, and sub pac academically a smaller budget, only offer recent football success compared to ISU... no way they would EVER get picked before ISU. But why would the pac be picking...and why am i even commenting on this dumb hypotheticalISU is an AAU member and a respected national jresearch university. These are very important things for ISU and are also very important for students and alumni when it comes to our degrees.
These things are probably 99 and 100 on the list of things conferences are looking at during conference expansion.
Depending on how things play out it is very possible that ISU could still end up in a power conference if the Big XII did fall apart. But to think that is a sure thing, or even a likely thing, is just sticking your head in the ground.

Man oh man, they are selling a cable network. Texas already would deliver texas, which is why the sec is happy with just a&M likely the only way baylor tech or tcu would go if politics forced them to bring a dancing partner. The pac model is different. Like people want to go to utah? Smaller than Iowa. OSU would get in as a package deal but not because they deliver oklahoma, they already would have that. From business/money and academic perspective ISU is more attractive...from a football strength perspective we are not. But yeah colorado, utah, maryland, rutgers, missouri, are powers right.... just ask wvu if academics matter. Sec and acc didnt want them for this reason alone, money and football they were the easy choice.Wrong. ISU would need to ***** itself out to get into a good conference if **** hit the fan. TCU and Baylor are in Texas. Far more attractive than coming to Ames Iowa.

exactly....isu would be easily among the top 20 of 22 schools from a money perspective, academic or even football strength, they would be an easy choice in this unlikely scenario.First, TCU and Baylor wouldn't get into the Pac X for the very same reason why BYU will never get there - they, particularly Cal and Stanford, don't want religious universities in their conference.
Second, if the two conferences were to merge, the state is covered by U of Texas alone, with TT thrown in for good measure. What need does the Pac 12 have for 4 Texas schools?
Third, why is it automatically assumed that it's ISU that would get left out in a merger? Why is Oregon St or Washington St never discussed?
