***OFFICIAL BIG 12 EXPANSION THREAD 2.0***

I think it's obvious that our TV partners were not willing to up our contract for adding Louisville and that's why the B12 never pulled the trigger. Louisville has been banging down the B12's door for over a year now. If we still had Beebe running the show, I'd be nervous. But Bowlsby has already gotten the B12 an $800 mil contract with the SEC for our bowl game and I trust he is on top of this.

Good point. It's not like the ACC stole Louisville from the Big12. We had our shot and didn't take it for a reason.

I wonder if the bcs conferences would consider having some orderly draft that gets to (4x16). The acc has the biggest incentive right now, the pac is also locked out because of big12 gor. The b1g and sec seem to have the most power to pick and choose. And big12 is locked out until b1g and sec move first.

What if the big 12 agreed to dissolve, with the understanding that each team is picked in the 4x16? The numbers seem to match up with this. With b1g at 14, sec at 14, acc at 14 and pac at 12, 10 teams are needed to fill out the 4x16. I think the B1g and sec would be ok as long as they had first choice, given TX and OU. The acc is just happy to be around, so they agree to take last two teams. The pac is also pretty happy to get some of the middle big 12 teams. TX and OU would also get additional concessions in order to agree to this.

The Big 12 is sitting pretty right now, no reason to do that.

Too logical. This is NCAA football we are talking about.

The conferences are all about money. Geography has nothing to do with it in the long run.

This, we are just going to do whatever benefits our tv contract.

No, they wouldn't. Nothing about realignment has been done in cooperation with other conferences. Clemson and Florida State will come if they want to be in a football-relevant conference. I would be fine it stayed at 12. In the bloated B1G and Sec, they might only play some of their rivals at home once a decade. No thanks.

Who knows where Louisville will actually end up either. TCU was going to be in the Big East with Boise State before the Big12 came calling.

Louisville is just trying to get out of the Big East at this point. If the Big12 does expand and needs another team to get to 12, 14, or 16, they can poach UL out from under the ACCs nose.

Everything is riding on the ACC's lawsuit against Maryland. If they win, don't know if anyone else would leave. If they settle for less than the full buyout, ACC is as unstable as ever, get ready for poaching season.

SHHHHHHHH! Be vewy vewy quiet... it's poachin' season

The giant hole in the "we should have added Louisville" argument is this:

If we had added Louisville, the ACC would have just Cincy or UConn in their stead. Cincy is just as good of a football school as Louisville, and if adding a football school was all FSU and Clemson needed to be happy, it would be the exact same position. Then, we would be stuck with an extra member that didn't add a lick of value, and the ACC's position would be unchanged.

C-USA just added Middle Tennessee State - we are losing out on all the good options as we sit on our hands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless ACC does a grant of rights because that would make them as unpoachable as the big 12 teams. I see no reason why they wouldn't do that.

The ACC's self proclaimed academic superiority diminishes with every defection. If UVA and UNC were to leave that's another major hit. Is this what is keeping CU and FSU from jumping? Why doesn't FSU want to close the $$$ gap with Florida?

If the Big 12 wanted Louisville, we'd have had them a year ago.

The short-sightedness and ridiculous demands for immediate action that generate out of realignment hysteria drive me nuts.

Why did the Big 12 lose teams before? Because we were underpaid and there was a major lack of unity among schools. Those problems have been rectified. The amount of schools in a conference is irrelevant as long as they are well compensated and in unison. The Big 12's pay day is on par with all other major leagues and well ahead of the ACC, even with their addition of Louisville. Louisville is not going to change FSU or Clemson's mind. If they want a football first league, Louisville doesn't add much to that. If they want more money, Louisville doesn't add anything to that. If FSU and Clemson want out of the ACC (and that's a total "if" in my mind) this doesn't prevent that. If the Big 10 offers other ACC schools, the addition of Louisville won't keep them there. This is all extremely obvious to me, but I worry that the clamor of idiots who can't see it will force a rash decision, a la Mizzou to the SEC.

Hmmm. Typically when a Hurricane is coming, I bet on the guy stocking up on water and ammo, not the guy praying it misses him.

And if you think the Big 12 is unified, you are kidding yourself.

Cincy's football program is not as good as 'Ville. Had we taken Louisville, it would have forced the ACC to take UCONN, which would have made FSU start really looking around.

At this point, I think nothing happens until the Big 12 GOR is up, at which all heck breaks loose again.

You're assuming that the B12 isn't going to extend the GOR before that would even remotely become an option. It would be idiotic for the B12 members and Commissioner to wait until it expired to renegotiate a new GOR.

I feel bad for cinci and uconn. Could have easily been us. Thank goodness it wasn't.
