***Official Big 12 Expansion Thread '16***

If they DON'T expand at this point... then that is the double-tap shot for the Big12. It would be a huge PR disaster - "don't have a clue", "even G5 don't want in", "no future", etc etc. NO ONE would want in at that point.

Since we are all just throwing crap at wall for expansion how about this?

17 schools mentioned but total count is 16 - ACC delays league schedule? Cause ND wants in to new B12 and the TV jack! Might as well as some of the other fantasy floated around. No merger, no 64 superconference, no breakaway by the top 32 and subdivision relegation. Click bait pipe dreams. BYU and Cincy/Hou and we go to 12.

Northern Illinois was added, making 2 missing teams...ASU and Zona?

Maybe, but be prepared that the PAC could feign "interest" to string the Big 12 along and when they ultimately say "no" the Big 12 ends up looking worse.

The B12's and P12's T1/T2 deals with ESPN/Fox are essentially the same except for some variance in the total payouts. Both networks would be involved in a merger scenario but, on the surface, it would be a somewhat seamless merger for T1/T2.

Fox currently has nothing to do with PACN but they would seem to be the most likely buyer of PACN if it is sold but this might be where an outsider like Google might want to get involved with CFB. The hangup with T3 in the B12 is ESPN's ownership of LHN so any merger scenario likely won't include Texas assuming ESPN has no interest in selling or buying out LHN.

I wonder how much fuel there is in ESPN wanting to offload some of its debt. It's been reported that ESPN is bringing down Disney's profit margins. Off-loading debt would be a win-win to get ESPN back on track. Either that or Disney wholesells ESPN. This will be interesting to watch and speculate over.

Wasn't all this research into potential expansion candidates done months ago by the research firm that the Big 12 hired to investigate the feasibility of expansion? This 17-team video conference interview thing seems to me like a big ruse. I feel sad for all those schools, because I think they are just wasting a bunch of money on this. IMO, if there is going to be expansion, there is already a short list (or maybe even a final list), an the rest is just smoke and mirrors.

I still feel that all of the G5 schools are a waste of time, and are just delaying the inevitable breakup in 2025. I don't really care for Berry Trammel, but he is at least somewhat connected, and he continues to claim that OU wants out...or maybe he is just feeding diversionary propaganda.

IMO, something like Arizona, ASU, and CU are probably what is needed to entice OU to stay. There was an article linked here several months ago stating that Boren fancies himself as an intellect, and fancies the Big Ten and Pac-12 because those leagues are loaded with prestigious academic schools (AAU types). Arizona and Colorado are AAU schools, so maybe getting a couple of those back in the Big 12 might satiate his intellectual desires.

I was all for BYU as my #1, despite reservations about their religion.

Then I learned more about how crazypants their honor code is, and I can definitely say I hope they don't make it in without some radical changes.

As it stands now, the honor code is unconscionable for how it affects victims of sexual assault.

I know BYU is working with the title IX office on a resolution to this.

Also, the salt lake tribune will do whatever/whenever it can to put BYU and/or Mormons in a bad light. We take their reporting with a grain of salt around here

There are times I wonder if Bowlsby is the right man for this job. If he has his eye on the Big 10 job after Delaney, I could see him going with the safe bet in all of this. Not ruffle any feathers. I think we need more of a riverboat gambler willing to shake things up, that will go after the Big Dogs. Someone not afraid to embellish the Big 12 and swing for the fences. Even if it means calling out OU or UT. I just don't see that in Bob.
