***Official Big 12 Expansion Thread '16***

Honestly what I'd like to see is big 12 take 6 new teams...Uconn, UC, UH, Memphis, BYU, UCF...reach every freaking part of the United States.have 3 time zones..be the first conference to be a "Super Conference" and in 7 years say good bye to ESPN and FOX..in the meantime use the $1 billion and $500 mil from Memphis and Fed ex and over the next 6-7 years lay the ground work for the First conference network that is owned and run by the Big 12 with partnership with Amazon or Netflix or both.. Charge $20 a month to watch all sports..all teams...and call it a freaking day. You add those 6 teams then TV market has zero to do with that concept I just laid out..it's all about fan base and alumni..Nobody can convince me that they couldn't get at a minimum 2-3 million monthly subscribers at a minimum..Do the math. Not to mentioning the advertising $$ they would make instead of ESPN or FOx making $$ on advertising the BIg 12 does.

I pay $10 month for little cyclone tv...I and millions of others would pay another $10 a month or more honestly to watch all big 12 teams and all sports anytime they wanted.

I see U of Cincinatti and UConn being let in.
Because the Texas schools want Houston, then we also have to take BYU.

Then the REAL horse trading begins.

If some of the Big 12 presidents are calling out the BYU 'Honor Code', it looks unlikely the that the Cougars are in the mix. The edge today is Cincy and Houston get the votes to get in.

I know all these media guys seem to say they have inside sources but one thing I know and that is Barry Trammel is very close with OU and the OU program..He basically just said OU is gone in 2025 and he thinks Okie st and Texas and KU will be too..We've heard this rumor a lot and I've been one who has said I can't see either OU or TX leaving for numerous reasons but he said it gotten to the point where OU feels it is the last straw and Boren is retiring soon and his last move will be to put OU in the BIG or SEC..

Wts..I hope JP over next 5-6 years is setting up lunches and dinners with every PAC 12 president because that conf is our only shot IMO. I don't think fans realize just how close we are to seeing our Cyclones become completely irrelevant in the very near future..forever.

I know the Big10 is a long shot, but if they really value AAU there's not many options for them. The only schools in the Midwest are KU and ISU. UNC and Duke aren't going anywhere if the ACC stays in tact. So I guess ISU has a chance, not from the athletic side, but from the academic side.

Big10 takes KU

I think the PAC12 takes Texas, Tech, TCU, and BYU (These are separate times that they'd consider religious schools).

ACC takes ND and UCONN.

SEC takes OU and OSU.

That leaves ISU, KSU, Baylor, Cincinnati for the Big10s last spot. Sounds odd, but I don't mind those odds. If Baylor slides back in the next 8 years I don't know what they bring to a conference. KSU is much the same as ISU with TV sets once KU is on board. Edge to ISU on academics.

We need GOR extended, it's simple if not we r ******. It's not looking so peachy for ISU if GOR is not extended. Unless a higher power steps in to set up existing P5 schools geographically and wipe that tax exempt tag off million dollar generating athletic departments. Hope I am insanely wrong, jeez all we want is ISU to be okay.

Is ESPN pulling the you can't succeed without us ********? I think they feel very threatened by cable cutters, cause well its staring them in the face.

For all of the doomsdayers out there....if/when the Big12 blows up...and ISU somehow gets picked up by the Pac12.... It would not be ideal, but would be kinda cool. Any teams in our division we'd get at home every other year, which means cross division would be every 8 years, but having USC, UCLA, Oregon etc coming to Ames? I'd definitely see that. Even the mountain teams are decent....Arizona...Utah... While that still has a tiny chance, would be novel at the least and give plenty of good fall vacation trip opportunities.

I find this whole thing funny in the fact that cable companies are their own worse enemies. They were the ones waving money and driving leagues to add, reshuffle, etc. All in the name of games on cable/satellite channels and conference channels. To pay for these crazy contracts they forced channels onto subscribers, raised fees to local cable companies, etc. Now they have priced themselves out of the market just to pay for these crazy contracts. They are their own undoing.

As long as it doesn't end up with ISU on the outside looking in - then not funny AT ALL

Yep, as soon as any current P5 schools get left out, senators will get involved, and an investigation will begin. Tax exempt status will likely fail.

We already know that there was behind the scenes movement to try to get ISU a landing spot in the Big10 in 2010. Gordon Gee confirmed this on his leaked speech. He said that "Iowa was under tremendous pressure from the state to get Iowa State into the Big10" or something to that effect.

Didn't UCONN and Cincinnati get dropped from a BCS status? Is this any different?

I'm not buying that Senators are going to save us.

Out of 100 Senators you may have 4-6 that are pissed and the rest will be like "meh".

100% zero chance that the PAC 12 takes Texas Tech, TCU or Baylor..Never ever happening..Even with TExas..It's reason they didn't last time..Tech academics are horrid..People don't understand that academics do matter to an extent..There are far more academic dollars conference teams collaborate on than football money..by far. That's number one..numbers two is PAC 12 will never ever take a religious institution like TCU or Baylor it's also why they will never ever take BYU. The PAC 12 is our only shot. I honestly don't think Baylor would make the P4..They don't fit as an institution in PAC or ACC or BIG. Neither has does Tech. The PAC would definitely make a play for KU and TX though.

So if OU does go SEC, who goes with Texas? I really think politics will get Tech somewhere. If the PAC has to decide between Texas and Tech or not at all, then I think they take the package. Because really at this point who else would they take? That's also why I think TCU and BYU have a shot. The PAC will be desperate to get to 16. I don't see that happening with non-religious high academic schools with their proximity.

ISU may have a shot I guess, but there isn't a travel partner around assuming KU goes Big10.

Not disagreeing with anything you say there. But KSU has had way more success in FB than KU in the last 20 years. I know KU is the better academic school and has MBB tradition up the ying yang. But based on previous history of Musical Conferences NEITHER of those things seem to make a bit of difference. It's FB viewers tied to revenue. The rest is all just window dressing. You know - "student athletes" and UNC Basketball NCAA investigations and sanctions. Just BS.
