We would be a much better fit in the Big 10. However, do we ever realistically expect to be a player in the football playoff? You don't need to be in a major conference in basketball to make noise. We'll find a place if it ever comes to that.

Big 10's a wash at best. We have as much in common with schools in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio as we do Texas, minus 20 years of playing each other. Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska are good fits but at the same level as KU and less so than KSU and OSU. Purdue is probably a pretty good fit.

I think the lack of Texas recruiting would hurt our football program more than the easier schedule would help it. I wouldn't mind the Big 10, but if we could guarantee a stable and lucrative Big 12 I'd take it every day of the week.

I think the answer, no matter how damn dumb it is, is a 10 team league with a CCG.

The Big IIXII should go full dumb and set up "real" divisions while retaining the round robin. Allow fluidity in the divisions, but place the tougher teams (this year, for example, Texas, OU, TCU, Baylor, and OSU) in one division and the rest in the other division. That should* guarantee a 11-1/12-0 team playing a lesser team for the title while a the conference runner up sits at home and doesn't get dinged by the playoff committee for an additional loss. Call it the "SEC Plan"

* - This doesn't account for a team like KSU having an excellent season and entering the championship game as the real conference winner or runner up.

Links to what controversial stuff has been said today? CW said in his podcast that there was nothing controversial said today, and that is was rather boring.

Seems like lots of discontent among members reminiscent of 2010-11.

That is a recipe for disaster considering the B12 has the weakest hand of any major conference right now.

Anyone care to post a few of them here?

It really blows that we can't just have separate conferences for football. I just see no reason why conferences have to be disbanded/bastardized to accommodate a revenue model for one stupid sport when it's to the detriment of things like rivalries, traditions, geographic sensibility, etc.

Honestly i think some just need to cool it down for a year. I think there's been way too much overreaction given to the justifications that were given to keep TCU\Baylor out, when in reality the commitee, a committee which had very little big 12 representation on it, was looking for any excuse it could to get OSU in. By all metrics TCU had the better resume over OSU (they played similar SOS but TCU's one loss was a much better loss than OSUs) but you know OSU was a more attractive candidate than TCU or Baylor.

I've tried to grasp where Oklahoma could be going with some of their comments on moving to 12 teams. They were undefeated until they were beaten in the Big 12 Championship Game in 2003 to a 9-3 team from the north. A lot of this may just be exposure, since the Big 12 really doesn't have that big of a footprint, and a lot of the country is tuning into other networks. Today for instance, virtually no talk about B12 media days on ESPN.

Ideally, I'd like to see the current conference model abandoned for something that's set up like the NFL, where you have geographic divisions, and the winners of the division make the playoffs. Some people think that's where it's all heading, and I think ISU would be pretty damn safe in that set up, at least in terms of having a seat at the table.

I'm not so sure ISU would have a seat at that table, but hope so. But I don't think they are safe in that scenario. I could see Boise, BYU, etc taking a seat first and ISU out in the cold. In the past, 2010, there was talk about a super conference with 64 teams. Iowa State was not one of them.

Controversial is probably a strong word, but this tells me there is a lot of disagreement on the way forward. You just don't see this crap out of other conferences.

Just because Disney has money doesn't mean they're going to keep letting ESPN spend money on buying rights for everything under the sun. In fact, the recent mandate to cut spending makes me think they are definitely NOT going to do that. I think that conferences and leagues that were expecting another big raise from ESPN after their current deals run out because off all the noise that sports were "DVR-proof" are going to be in for a rude awakening.

We'll see. I don't think it's ever a good thing when a conference is split apart on a major issue. If, OU and Texas can't get along, this thing isn't going to work very long.

ESPN will have no problem paying up. I still think their people have a lot to do with this re-alignment talk when it creeps back up. The more concentrated football is, into larger conferences, the better deals they can make with those conferences for the same amount of teams they would have had before.

No one is going to give up money. All or most of these schools have insane facilities projects going, so if the money starts to dry up, the teams that bring the least in terms of TV revenue will be the first to get chopped.

I think this is an argument for re-alignment more than against it.

The UT's, OU's, Alabama's, etc are never going backward in revenue. They will make their product better and more valuable rather than take a pay cut.

One way to do that is to trim some of the teams that bring little value to the table.
