*** Official #22 IOWA STATE vs Colorado Game(Day) Thread ***

The issue I think a lot of fans have is that Campbell's teams are supposed to be so disciplined and fundamentally sound but they aren't. At least consistently. If we lose its not supposed to be because we beat ourselves.
We have been really good at not getting penalties (until recently) and not turning the ball over, but yeah, other areas are lacking in discipline. Tackling, for example, has always been an issue.

Anyone think it’s a slight waste of time that the staff do their picks every week? Maybe it’s partly the frustration losing two in a row coming out, but it feels pointless when literally everyone always picks ISU to win…

I think it's a waste of time to take anything any journalists say as gospel since a big part of their job is hype.

It comes down to quality depth. Something we clearly don't have.

I disagree. @cyclonez7 is right, they’re not converting quality drives into points. A tiny part of that is the kicker, the rest is overthinking play calling, or getting scared, or—I don’t know. It seems like they get into obvious pitch-to-Hansen field positions (inside the 30) and just go deer in headlights cause he’s out. But, the play calling overall isn’t good enough. I didn’t have a chance to watch much of the game today, but I saw the last ~eight minutes, and their turnover on downs at their 20 or whatever, they got screwed with the spot, but Colorado isn’t stopping Brahmer if you just run the same play again. When Mouser is confident you can tell because it doesn’t seem like he’s just throwing darts at a board for the next call, and he stays in the same vein of what’s working

I always hoped we could be like Iowa in terms of developing offensives lines but it just isn't going to happen. I'm not saying we suck but we need to find a niche to make up for lack of talent at skill positions that we have a lot of times.

Campbell has a history of righting the ship and rallying the team after this stuff happens. Obviously conference championship game potential took a huge hit today. But honestly how many time in our history as a program has it ever been realistic. Most of those times have come from this staff and head coach. Some of the stuff said about Campbell makes be sick by fans today.

With all the changes the last couple of years, the Big 12 is a whole new league and there isn’t a single blue blood anymore. Success is there for the taking. Go get it. And yet…

You can’t lose that game to Colorado, it’s a huge step backward for recruiting, momentum, fan support and overall mental health of Cyclone Nation.

I agree with you on Brahmer. 50% of the plays he should probably have the option on what he wants to do. If he sees zone just run a curl. He sees man just run the route. You really can't stop a TE if you do it right. They can know what's coming every time too

Recruiting is 80% money now, unfortunately.

Tech may not be a blue blood but they are loaded with green.

They landed the best D lineman in the country. It had nothing to do with on the field play.

Quarterback draw on third and ten late in the game was strange especially knowing they were going to punt if they didn't get the first down.
I think they were going to go for it if he got more yards, but he didn't so they had to punt. Still a bad call though.

The Center position is very key to the OL's overall performance. ISU has been less than stellar at the position overall during MC's tenure. They have had a couple solid players there, just not consistant dominance.

Could anyone tell me what the hell this alignment is all about? We are out manned in the box and don't have anyone on the wide side of the field as wide as their outside player.

Other teams have our D figured out, and can simply scheme up plays that give them a mathematical advantage over half the width of the field.

Big plays continue to KILL us. Painful, year after year.

Ps. When was the last time you saw the green field goal line at the 17 yard line? Was the source of great laughter at my bar.
When was the last time you saw a 6'9" 310 pound lineman doing kick offs? (never)
Can only imagine, had the op arrived to kick a field goal...or an extra point.
