***Official 2026 World Cup Thread***

I get that spiking someone is dangerous, even if it's unintentional. My point is running someone over is also dangerous, usually intentional, and is typically just a common foul.

One unintentional, but dangerous play is given a red card and multi-game suspension.
One intentional and dangerous play is given a normal foul with not even a yellow card.
You aren’t breaking someone’s leg with a push or a shove. A slide tackle is risky. If you tackle recklessly, you’re getting booked. It’s that simple.

Would have been an impossible call to make, but sure seems like Portugal would have been better off not sticking with Ronaldo all tournament long. Just doesn't seem like he's got the legs anymore to really shine at highest level. Better options sitting on the bench while they are dying for a goal.

Almost every Portugal attack died at his feet.

Lots of changes for Belgium. Doku, Lukaku and De Bruyne all off the bench is a surprise. A few other changes too with Ngoy, Onana and Raskin in.

Big calls there by Rudi Garcia. We need to get all over them early.

If we’re just getting rid of accidental red cards then englands red card surely gets suspended?
The thing is, I don’t think FIFA is even saying the red card wasn’t deserved or that it matters whether it was accidental . It seems like they’re saying, “the red card was appropriate, but we’re suspending the punishment for totally non-corrupt and legitimate reasons, just trust us.” Based on that, the English player shouldn’t be suspended either. Basically no one should. And that’s why this is so stupid.

When Sapp Blatter, who's probably the most corrupt FIFA president in history, comes out saying that lifting Balogun's red card was a breach of sports ethics... there's a problem. Lol.
