***Official 2026 NCAA Tournament Thread***

Alabama looking strong early. I assume we want Alabama, but they do shoot the three ball well. But I’d rather face a jump shooting team than a team with length

Why was the clock reset to 19 instead of 20 seconds in the Alabama game? Not once but twice? If that is the rule, first time I have noticed it. I thought the clock reset to 20 seconds on kicked balls, etc. when the clock was low.

Uhh, I wasn’t involved in the WBB comparisons.

I was contemplating for MBB whether I’d prefer a single Elite 8 followed by missing the tournament altogether 3 straight seasons (often referred to as “the Tang”) or 4 straight seasons good enough to earn #6-#7 seeds (presumably with a few tournament wins).

It is actually a tough call. The Elite 8 is, uhh, elite.

I don’t know about Cyclone fans getting mad here, but two things:

1. This is a Cyclone board.

2. Though an avowed progressive and equality absolutist I am a genus chauvinist. Other than a handful of truly exceptional cases Hawkeye fans lack the requisite cognitive and emotional aptitudes to be considered human.

Any such asymmetry is to be expected.

That is awesome…I got nothing for you. That was a fantastic comeback…

With the frame work now established, THE elite 8 wouldn’t be enough to miss the tournament completely the next 3 years. At one time it had merit, but that’s been 10ish years…I mean a championship in any form is nothing to Pooh-pooh but….lets say NIT, NIT, Nit champ, then elite 8…now that’s a trajectory :)

But just Elite 8 & then no…..gross. You’d be considered a “flash” & based on my reading over here. There seems to be plenty of fans who crave the notoriety and that would bring none.

Look I don’t take it as seriously as many (at least now) but if Iowa misses the tournament next year, they are now an afterthought. Just a snap shot in time.

As a comparison…The Iowa women making the NC was cool, even with the loss. But that fades….no one thought they could do it again, NO ONE, and they did! Very few have accomplished 2 straight final 4s, let alone NC.

But and again this is my opinion but it’s relative to this thought. If Iowa disappears, after she goes…it’s just CC, but they still made the tournament…that’s trajectory.

Making the tournament consistently IS important. Now as Fran proved, after awhile it’s not enough, but that wasn’t the discussion :p

I would rather play Alabama than Michigan. But it doesn't matter if we don't get past Tennessee.
Totally. I'm not 100% sure who I think is the better "matchup" for Iowa State. I've heard CFers make cases for both teams...

...but I'll say this: Assuming we can advance tonight, beating #1 seed Michigan (& a Big 10 school) is always cool, but also beating UK, TENN, BAMA in order would be pretty awesome too for bragging rights against the SEC.
