***Official 2026 NCAA Tournament Thread***

Pearl said Kentucky may be vulnerable to Santa Clara’s size. Personally I hope we see the Wildcats in round two. It just adds another piece ( and payback) in a historic run.

The Big 12 could have all four final teams and Bruce Pearl would still complain about his sons snub and Clark Kellogg would complain about “it is sooo unfair that Houston got to play the regional final in Houston.” But Yormark will add, yeah, but how was it for style?”

Somebody mentions the NCAA tournament and the first thing you think of is an Iowa game 20 years ago?

C'mon. There is so much Iowa State to celebrate right now. It gets super old, super quick.

I may

I may be an old curmudgeon but it still saddens me that one of these two isn't going to get their shot at an Arizona or some other 1 seed.

No play in games for automatic qualifiers is what I say.

I don't feel bad about it.

Its worth noting you don't get a 16 seed by simply playing in a bad conference and winning. You get there by being in a bad conference *and* picking up some bad losses.

UMBC had 3 losses to quad 4 teams, lost its single q3 game, and went 0-4 in quad 1\2, including a 25 point loss to net 45 USF and a nearly 40 point loss to net 91 george washington

Howard went 1-4 against q1/2 including a 20 point loss to northwestern and a 37 point loss to duke, and also picked up 6 quad 4 losses including losses to NET 351, 352, and 356

The schools in these play-in games also benefit financially by receiving NCAA credits for these games, and this also gives them a game they can be competitive in.

There's also some evidence there's actually a little advantage to these games, getting the first game of the tournament jitters out of the way

Wow that was actually a great and insightful response during that media timeout interview with the UMBC coach. Usually those are just cliche and buzzword-filled wastes of time.
