August is generally underrated imo.
It still gets hot and all but the nights start to cool down and the sun gets to that place where you can sense the fall coming more and more.

You mean like tonight? It is the NFL HOF game, but it’s something.

Agreed. The HOF game always gets me excited right up until I start watching and realizing no one cares. It’s the NBA summer league of the NFL.

That's the part I miss about being in the midwest. You don't get anything like that here until much later and even then it's just not as pronounced or enjoyable. Also, I'm already tired of the summer heat and we have a minimum of a month left before it relents at all.
On the plus side, no chance of a flood since its rained about a quarter inch in the last 4 months!
This is from an email from Iowa DNR this morning. I've had the AirNow app on my phone since going to Asheville, NC for a conference a couple of years ago. At that time, there was quite a bit of smoke in the area from fires in the mountains. I didn't know about the smoke plume option until this message. FYI, the current air quality for DSM is currently "unhealthy."
