This is from an email from Iowa DNR this morning. I've had the AirNow app on my phone since going to Asheville, NC for a conference a couple of years ago. At that time, there was quite a bit of smoke in the area from fires in the mountains. I didn't know about the smoke plume option until this message. FYI, the current air quality for DSM is currently "unhealthy."
Real-time air quality maps and information about the air quality index can be found on EPA’s airnow.gov site. A graphic approximation of the extent and trajectory of the smoke plume can be seen on the map at fire.airnow.gov.
