Not exactly sure.
Forest City lucked out; I think 2 cells passed around us here. Golf course had nothing down this morning. Was closed yesterday for Sunday night storm cleanup.

Garner got hit. Several trees damaged, including one on their golf course that tipped over and became uprooted.
Britt had a few trees down but didn’t look too bad as I went through. Crystal lake to the MN border didn’t look bad but wife told me that a few places by Woden got hit hard.

To be fair, most of us have PTSD from that storm. Seeing glass shatter and embed in drywall will do that lol

Or riding it out in a car on the highway shoulder as the rear window shatters and rain and rocks blow into the vehicle at 100 mph as I’m convinced the wind is going to flip me over into the ditch. Then getting home to find my back yard filled with tree and going without power for 10 days.

No, I have no issues with the word “derecho,” why do you ask?

I live in Storm Lake & we lost power for about 3 hours last night. While it didn’t seem very bad when I looked outside, the damage says different. There were lots of trees down in town! There several very large trees in this community & we have lost parts of some or all of some with all of the storms this year. Some roof damage along a car that looked pretty nasty after what looked like a tree fell on it. We were also hit hard by straight line winds back in April. If it continues, we may not end up having anymore big trees around town & by the lake!!! Time to stop!

I honestly don't know how every single creek and river in the state isn't already flooded.
A few factors - Our soil profile was still pretty dry after 3 years of drought. Quite a few water holding reservoirs were still low. The largest in my opinion - Most of the large rains have come after late June when the crops are large and utilizing a lot of water daily - 0.25" or more at times. If we had been getting all this rain in March or April the picture would look much different because of the utilization rate.

I think we've taken all that we can. Won't be surprised to see some flooding if we get a big event tonight.

Agree with all of this but would add to part of the crop utilization point that the rain has also been spread out well for the amount that's fallen. Lots of 1-2 inch rains usually a few days apart, pretty isolated cases of extreme heavy events.

I don’t think there’s anywhere else for the water to go. Driving around the farms the other day (before Sunday/Monday rain) the ditches were full, tile lines running full and water standing between the rows. Some soil may be able to take a bit more rain, but not much more.
