***Official 2025 Weather Thread***

This rain is about perfectly timed. Nice and hot over the weekend kicked my garden into gear, was starting to get a little dry, then BAM - today, and looks like some nice warm weather after this. We've honestly been pretty lucky so far this year (IMO) with good timed rains.

Usually leave my HVAC fan run 24/7 but just turned it off, was starting to pull in too much smoke and could begin to smell it in the house.

Never seen "rain smoke" before. Neat. I'm driving up tomorrow to fly out for a 2 day work trip. Should be neat?

Technically it’s “rain and smoke,” with the observation recording the precipitation as well as any other elements restricting the visibility. As fun as it sounds, there’s not actually a phenomenon called “rain smoke.”

Heavy rain in Van Buren County. According to my gauge, the rate was the highest I‘d ever seen, a half inch of rain in two minutes, at one point.

First good rain since April 18, 1.1”. Local station said 1.5” in May, 2.4” under normal. Crop stress like drought and beans struggled to get through corn stalks.

I'm on the NW side of Ankeny and I've received 0.75 inches of rain since last night. Wouldn't mind getting a little more, but I'm grateful for the 0.75.

0.44” on the opposite end of town. Be glad you got that much.
And KCCI news just reported that Ankeny has received 0.28 in the last 24 hours. That's crazy how the amount can vary so much in the same town.
