A few swats with a fly swatter and some bug spray does a good job chasing them away. Not sure what to do about the gnats though.
The bug soother or any of those lemongrass smelling sprays works OK for gnats. Deet does no good.
Hanging a Caitlin Clark poster wil get the hoks to congregate in one area. Makes the bug spray more effective too.

I was just in Canada last week. It's extremely dry there right now and they had fire bans in place.
Well clearly the fire is ignoring the ban if the smoke is coming our way. Man, nobody follows the rules anymore

Even tomorrow's setup puts central Iowa right between severe risks in the diurnal quiet slot, and the next system coming at the end of the week may be even weaker than this one.
That said, keep an eye out for higher rain chances in Iowa (and most of CONUS east of the Rockies) next week:
For Iowa, tornado season peaks at June 15th and then drops off https://www.spc.noaa.gov/new/SVRclimo/climo.php?parm=sigTorn, but in my experience in recent years summer tornadoes tend to be more squall line driven and therefore weaker and shorter lived than the ones from big synoptic drylines in March, April, and May.

Ugh, Canada is the worst. They send all their garbage down here like the smoke, Canada geese, Nickelback….
Yeah, heard them talking about the rain plus smoke haze together. Stepped out onto porch and it smells really smoky and it's raining steady (hard rain a few moments ago).
