High of 80 this Friday in central Iowa? I'll take it!

Just dethatched and raked up my lawn. Gonna put some seed down before we get rain later this week. Don't normally do this stuff until mid-April.

Do you normally seed in the Spring?

Fall aeration right after Labor Day in Midwest with heavy over seeding and proper fertilizer will carry you MUCH further than tossing seed in the Spring. But that's just me.
Deer. rodents and birds pick my yard clean without snow cover.

But I get special seeds, straight from the Vatican.

I edge every spring when the frost goes out and the ground is soft. I use a flat spade and take about 4 inches away from curbs and driveway where needed. A once a year manicure that eliminates some trimmining and makes snowblowing or scooping much easier. Then I transplant that grasss to poorer looking areas of my lawn, in the areas that show the most from the house and curb. My wife calls it unecessary "busy work". In three weeks all the weak patches will be filled in with fresh grren grass. The bad spot soil and "weird" grass in my lawn that is replaced get thrown in a corner of the garden. The weird grass is from my neighbor who buys the grass seed that is the cheepest. Some is like brome.

Question, I have always used straight bluegrass seed. Is their a better alternative? Something that mingles well with bluegrass and doesnt look different early or late in the season or during dry periods. Those are the times different varieties look crappy intermingled with bluegrass. I hate the wide bladed stuff or peculiar looking grass or fescues for that reason. I have awesome soil if that is a consideration.
Y'all in the wrong thread for this topic

As I said above, it's supposed to rain here in central Iowa tonight and tomorrow and get up to 80 on Friday, so I dethatched my lawn and put down Scotts 3 in 1 (grass seed with starter fertilizer and soil improver) on a large section of the lawn that has always been lousy. Then I covered the section with straw that comes in rolls and watered it all down.

The whole thing cost around $150 and took several hours, so I hope it will be worth it!

We were out cleaning out a flower bed in the front lawn yesterday, and I noticed the grass in our yard and others that do not have a watering system are greening up, but those that do have a water system are still brown. What is the reason for this?

I've been chillin to Dylan since I watched A Complete Unknown last night on Hulu. Good movie btw.

I wasn't a Dylan fan growing up; I was more of a Skynyrd, Stones, Who, Pink Floyd, Marshall Tucker type. However, the "folksy" aspect of some of his earlier work, combined with the brilliance of his lyrics, makes it more palatable as a senior looking back on the 60s with nostalgia.
