Are the posts with a phone filter? I only ask because there is truly nothing more spectacular than just sitting and watching them with your bare eyes. I was working ground (around this time of year) like 15 years ago and saw the fireworks and flares at like 2-3 am. The bright purples and greens are something I won’t forget.

No filter on mine, just a long-exposure night setting (gives finer detail than is perceptible by the eye alone)

Tonight at Clear Lake, Iowa, taken with cell phone in night mode.

Mine were taken in night mode. I've never seen them with the naked eye until tonight. So cool.

A lot of it depends on how much light pollution is around you. I’m in the twin cities and for the first time I could see th pink color of the northern lights with my bare eyes.

But yes.. seeing it with your bare eyes is far more enjoyable than having to use your camera filter

Same. I'm in a suburb of Minneapolis. When I first walked outside, I thought there was a fire because the sky on the horizon was all red.

Eh, disagree. What we saw with the naked eye pales in comparison to any photo taken of them, ever. Yeah, we saw some red in the sky, but NOTHING like any of the photos. We're on the outskirts of town, but have seen them out in farmland before, too.

My mom down in southern Iowa was able to pick them up with her camera, but she said you couldn't really see them with the naked eye. In WDM, I managed to get a shot of them somewhat, even with all the light pollution.

9/10 times yes. Last night the pictures were nearly identical to what we saw with the naked eye.

I went a bit north of Cedar Rapids last night, where it was nice and dark - to the naked eye, it was a glow in the sky, similar to high clouds being illuminated by city lights. I didn’t see any color at all. It was cooler to see the stars again (you can’t see them in town).

It also not a constant thing. We had 3 different showings that we noticed between 8:15 and 9:30, where each only last for about 5-10 minutes where you could see it with the naked eye.

Has anyone saw or heard anything about an upcoming Thanksgiving blizzard hitting Iowa? I get its a week out, but I saw something a few minutes ago about it happening.

Now I saw something saying it's all a fake, and not to worry.

Long range models have pointed towards a cooler and active pattern in that time frame but anyone trying to sell a winter storm that far out at the moment is wishcasting one particular model run.

A couple of people grabbed an individual model run and ran with it.
