*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Soderstrom is only 23. This is his first full season in MLB. He is hitting .260, 22 HR, and 71 RBI. He has more homerun and RBI than Tucker. What is so outrageous about comparing Tucker to Soderstrom? BTW, Tucker is not Larry Walker, not even close. Walker is a hall of famer and 3 time batting champion. His lifetime BA is .313. Tucker‘s lifetime BA is .274. Tucker is a good player but not a super star and definitely not a hall of famer. What he is doing this year is very close to his career average.
Using batting average in 2025 is a choice...

Career OPS+:
Walker: 141
Tucker: 140

You are comparing Walker‘s entire career stats to Tucker’s stats in his prime. Let’s see how Tucker does in his mid to late 30’s. Do you think Tucker will be a hall of famer like Walker or future hall of famer Beltran when he is done playing?

At the beginning of the season, we'd think "no big deal, we can come back from four down"....now, we can't even score. We look defeated, and frankly, uninterested. Hard to watch.

Barring injury. Yes.

Has he even produced an MVP-caliber season yet? You’re comparing Tucker to a Hall of Famer and a future Hall of Famer—an even more absurd comparison than putting Soderstrom in the same conversation as Tucker.

I don't understand keeping McGuire. There aren't going to be at bats for him unless you're going to play Amaya at 1B some.

At a minimum McGuire's a better PH than Berti has shown. But could be they bring Amaya back slowly and he sees as much time at DH as catcher over the next 7 to 10 days.

But in the end, if Amaya settles in nicely at catcher, then I think McGuire is gone. There has to be some sense of urgency by the Cubs front office. So I don't feel like they can wait until September call-up to slow play Caissie, Alcantara, Ballesteros or Long. If the hitting woes continue, they need to bring up one of the prospects.

What I don't understand is the FO signing a guy like Nicky Lopez. It's a minor league deal, but he had a minor league deal with the Yankees. Could be he sees a clearer path to the majors with the Cubs. But I don't see it with adding Castro. Unless the Cubs sold him as being injury insurance vs. the Yankees just promised him minor league at bats.

Why is Busch leading off? He's got a 33 perc k rate since the break, he's not a lead off hitter. If we aren't going to bat Nico lead off every game they need to get a lead off hitter for next year. This is rediculous having Busch up there hacking away.
