If cubs don't land a quality starter I think that means couple things. Teams are demanding caissie be included in a trade and we're unwilling to include him because we don't have plans to pay Tucker what he will receive in offseason and caissie is the replacement. I think we'd be more than willing to trade the other top prospects for a top end rotation guy but maybe isn't enough. Still some good guys out there maybe priced lower as day progresses.

Talking about Robert Suarez who plays for the Padres, which would be relevant considering I was talking about making a trade with the Padres.
Also, think you've got bad info. Kittredge was injured in March so missed the start of the year but been pitching and healthy since late May. Matter of fact he's got a 1.76 ERA over his last 15 outings and looks a lot like the guy he's been for 5 years, which is a solidly above average middle-relief pitcher.
D***, why didn’t our front office go after Miller and Duran? Our FO is a cheapskate. It is really frustrating that we are unwilling to give up any of our prospects for top quality players.

Yeah I think the two they'd really prefer to hold onto are Caissie and Wiggins. Doubt they can keep Caissie if we're looking for a non-rental starter (Cabrera), but probably can figure something out for a rental.
Sure some of it is that Tucker could be gone, but also Caissie is just a good player and next year Happ/Suzuki are both in final year of their deals. If we resigned Tucker I could definitely see Suzuki being dealt. You could then let Caissie DH and play some LF/RF throughout the year and pencil him into LF the following season after Happ's deal is up.
Yeah this is legit stuff here. I’m guessing they’re close on this one. I’m thinking it could take Caissie + Wiggins + ??? Hopefully a pitcher besides Wiggins would suffice. That deal could really feel painful down the road.
Miller is injury prone and cost the Padres the #3 prospect in the MLB. It was the equivalent of us giving up Caissie, Wiggins, Rojas, and Cowles. I'd argue for both Duran and Miller, they're very elite arms but massive overpays.
Caissie will not be a part of our organization after today but he's a top 50 MLB prospect - my guess is the Cubs find more value in him than his 34% strikeout rate.

Miller cost a top 5 prospect in all of baseball (we don't have anyone close to that level) plus three pitching prospects that were the #3, 13 and 16 prospects in the Padres system. Simply not able to put a package like that together.
Duran cost two top 100 prospects, the lower ranked of which (Mick Abel) was a top ~40 prospect a year ago and is in the midst of a big bounce back on his stock. The Cubs could do a deal like that (Probably cost Rojas/Wiggins) but that ammo would be better used for a controllable starter if you going to spend major prospect capital.
Gore has 2.5 years more control and will likely cost one more high upside prospect than Cabrera, who has 3.5 years more control.

I think it's more of a sign of Tuckers impending free agency. If caissie is kept and no solid rotation piece was acquired that says a lot to me. Could be wrong and Tuckers later resigned but if that's case probably better to deal caissie now when value is really high

34% overall and 26% since May 1st. This means it was closer to 50% before May 1st. He is not even top 50 prospect. We need to do everything we can to win it all this year. The last time we had legitimate chance to win it all was 2016.

I despise this sentiment. This organization is intentionally resetting the luxury tax whilst having clean books in 2027.
The goal should be to build a championship caliber team this year, but next year is when you have the money to get stupid. But you can throw that away if you get stupid this year.
I can't see them keeping Caissie and acquiring a top of end rotation guy given market. I'm sure opposing teams are focusing on him in conversations.
Yes I do agree we might still resign Tucker I'd be less confident if we hold on to Caissie but that's just a thought. Caissie will still have value too and flexibility it would give as you point out.
I mean depleting your system of pitching is probably the best way to set yourself up for a multi season downturn.
