I’m to the point of hoping they don’t do a ton. This squad isn’t a few guys away from being a World Series contender.
And that’s super unfortunate going into next season as well. The starting rotation needs 2 more above average arms on back end. Bullpen needs a TON of tweaking. If Tucker leaves then we place all hope on Caissie working out. Probably more than capable of doing on one off season. Especially as conservative as the Ricketts are with money.

Wish List:

Cabrera, Bieber, Iglesias, Bird, Suarez

What I think they actually do:

Cabrera, Soroka, Bird, Suarez.

I believe Jed wants 2 SPs, 2 RPs, and a bat. But I also think we've taken too long and I'm not sure 5 moves in 32.5 hours is possible. We'll see!

Am I the only one that doesn’t want Suárez? 34 years old, 248 career hitter, led the league in strikeouts twice. What is the attraction here? We really going to give up a prospect for that? I get it, he hits home runs. I just am not sure it’s worth a prospect for that when it’s probably a defensive downgrade. Maybe I’m wrong.
You're certainly not the only one, but you can upgrade your worst offensive position with a guy who is:
  • Right handed in a left handed heavy lineup
  • 4th in home runs
  • 1st in RBI
  • Top 10 in OPS
I hope Matt Shaw has figured it out, but this is a no brainer. Obviously the price matters, but you can add that bat as a rental and it makes the bench better immediately. Prospects are cool, but the reason you have them is to make the big league team better. Not every prospect is going to play in Chicago.

Why not?

Cubs still have the best run differential in baseball. Have scored the 2nd most runs. Have hit the 3rd most homeruns.

This is the perfect season to do a ton. You have a good team that has obvious holes that you can patch up. Do people just like mediocrity?

On the same track, I hope we do a lot. That seems like a more convincing pitch to Tucker for the long term, too.

Once the Cubs are in the playoffs every year, we can MAYBE discuss taking a trade deadline off.

With that being said, any time you have a top 3 or 4 record on July 30 you should be adding. Full Stop.

Not a huge baseball guy, feels like the cubs need some more hitting though. Losing to the brewers who I'm pretty sure are the hottest team in baseball rn is no shame so we shouldn't overreact
i think if the hitting gets hot, the team could make a run, but the bullpen feels a bit weak for a true chance at the world series

Yep. There is nothing wrong with not being a finished product at the end of July. This team has room for improvement in all 3 phases. Bullpen arms and rentals shouldn't cost a lot. Obviously some of the bigger moves would.

That's an ambitious list. Probably cost a good chunk of the farm. I think we will wind up with a starter with added year of control (Alcantara or keller) and couple relievers.
