*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

He’s got two years before arbitration so they could put to gather an eight year deal that when you average it out it’s team friendly. Or a ten year that would increase the total by 100 mil when you take inflation into consideration

Don't disagree.

They'll make a move plus Horton is legit. I actually trust Jed a lot in the trade market. He's done really good work there. His two bad deals (Darvish and Bellinger) were ownership directed salary dumps that he had no control over.
With all the arm injuries popping up around MLB, not real confident the Cubs FO will be able to pull the string on an elite #1 starter that can be a playoff difference maker. So my hope is Horton is the real deal and his elite arm gives the Cubs just enough in the playoffs.

Feel there's a better chance of the Cubs being able to trade for a 3B with some slug. It sure would help if Shaw would "be ready" for call-up in the next 30 days. That would give him at least 45 days to prove himself before the All-Star break.

Give him the Acuna deal and move on. He's going to be expensive but he's doing to be worth it
Jackson Merrill is a good comp. Either spend the next few years on your rookie deal or take 8 years 150 million and know you are set.

Last six Shaw is 12/22 with 5 walks

When they recall him and send Brujan down I’d love to see Turner get DFA’d in favor of Ballestareos.

Brujan/Lopez not sure which one's contract makes one a necessary keeper in Chicago. If I had a choice, from what I've seen Brujan brings more flexibility as INF/OF.

I would hope Hoyer has a plan for getting Shaw, Horton and Ballesteros to Chicago over the next 60 days. Ballesteros might be the toughest to play regularly- but maybe there will be enough at bats as a 3rd catcher, back up 1B and back up DH. The tricky part, if they call Ballesteros up, there also seems the need to play him in the field.

Nice thing about Bert and Brujan is they can both fly nice to have those guys on the bench.

Another way to get Ballestareos abs is eventually Happ, Tucker or PCA may take a day off and Suzuki could get some time in the field and yes they actually gave Suzuki some time in center this spring and he looked ok.

I do NOT want the Cubs to give Bally the Canario treatment. If he doesn’t have a path to regular ABs in Chicago yet, you leave him in Des Moines so he can hit everyday. The kid is just 21, there’s no harm in him putting in a full year at AAA.

He’s hitting 400. That screams get me some big league abs. Hoyer knows his job is on the line. I think if he can help we’re going to see him.

Plus Horton’s ERA keeps dropping and he seems to have found a cure to his control issues. I think Shaw, Ballestareos and Horton will be up by June to determine what they need to target at the deadline.

The Cubs are above and beyond better than everyone else in the Central. Not even sure it’s really close right now. Reds don’t even scare me in the slightest.
