*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Skenes in not sharp today and we can't take advantage so far. Busch rolling over a double play ball on the first pitch after Skenes couldn't throw a strike to the last two guys is ridiculous.

And this ump is atrocious - one way. Counsell needs to get on this clown

Skenes getting a huge zone while Rea gets squeezed is not the recipe we needed today.

Can you imagine Wrigley if the Cubs had Paul Skenes on a weekday at 76 degrees? In Pittsburgh, maybe 13,000 scattered around the park. View attachment 148867
Can't wait to listen to Pirates fans, all 17 of them, complain when Skenes leaves for a big market team when his contract up. Way to show out for the face of your franchise

Wicks getting lit up in the 2nd for the icubs today.

Would not hurt my feelings if Wicks is included in a trade at the deadline as I have my doubts he is going to pan out as even a bottom of the rotation arm based on what we have seen of him so far. Horton keeps pitching well and would not be surprised if he gets a look in Chicago by the end of May even if maybe just for a spot start. He's definitely close to the point where we won't have much left to prove at the AAA level if he keeps up what he is doing right now.

I will say so far I was wrong about the Colin Rea signing. If he stays healthy and productive like he has to start the year he will turn out to be a steal at $4.25 mil this year and they hold a $6 mil club option on him next year too. Even if he slides back into the bullpen at some point they made out well on that signing.

Happ lining the first pitch of the game into right I think set the tone that Skenes isn’t going to plow through us today

He’s going to ask for a trade eventually
Ron Coomer brought up on the broadcast a couple of times how odd it was that the pitching coach never made a visit to Skenes either time when he was scuffling. They just let him go and let the catcher go out and talk to him. Coom really knows the game and doesn't bring up stuff like that unless he thinks its meaningful. I'm guessing there are some issues already percolating with Skenes and the Bucs.

I didn’t hear the broadcast but it could be that they were trying to let him work through stuff and come out on top of adversity (again I wasn’t listening). I coach baseball and we do that all the time for our pitchers. Granted, completely different level of play but skenes is still a young pitcher and what better time than early on in the season to work through things.
