*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Unless the Cubs plan on trading Amaya. I would guess he is projected to mentor Ballesteros in DSM?
Heard speculation that the Cubs were nearly completed with a trade (again) for a SP that included Caissie but the Baz return was so bonkers that those talks have essentially ended. Essentially every team has upped the price of their controlled SPs to unreasonable levels

At this moment, my prediction would be Caissie starts in Iowa, MoBaller in DSM catching, and then he’s the call up once someone inevitably ends up on the IL

15 innings in 2 years.....sounds like a typical Jed signing.
You can’t even complain correctly. Pitched 50.2 innings in ‘24. Only 5.2 of those with KC then only 10.2 innings pitched last year due to multiple injuries. Has largely been a good reliever for the last 4 years.

On one hand, no surefire late inning guy added. On the other, several more proven solid relief investments than normal

He was terrible in 2024. High ERA and WHIP with multiple teams and then injured most of 2025.

Whatever justifies your Jed hate. His ERA was 0.90 higher than his FIP, BABIP almost 50 points higher than career average. Not as good as 23/24 but could easily be attributed to bad luck on a largely bad Washington team.

If he’s healthy, which is the real if, it’s a pretty safe bet that he’ll be a pretty good middle relief option.

Killian signed a minor league deal with the Giants. What a dud of a trade that turned out to be when originally it looked like him and Canario were a good return. PCA was pretty much the only good return we got from selling off in 2021. Alcantara is still in the system from the Rizzo trade but he's probably not going to be a big piece of the future.

nothing more mid-tier than the rickettts
And even within the mid-tier usually its the guys that have question marks or coming off injury. I don't mind finding some steals there as we have done well with the approach but when you don't go after top tier talent those mid tier guys are supposed to support them but instead you are counting on the mid-tier guys to perform like top tier guys. That rarely happens.

As of now it feels like this roster needs 1 big bat and 1 top end of the rotation pitcher to fill out the roster and I would be shocked if they get 1 of those. It's lining up like they hope the homecoming queen cant find a date to the dance and they can swoop in and get her when no one is giving her attention.

83-79 team again as it stands. Juat as the Ricketts prefer, keep Wrigley filled while not spending like a serious large market team.
The 2025 Cubs making the postseason let alone winning a series was the worst thing we could have had happen for those of us that want our ownership/front office to act like the big market money making organization that they truly are.

Last year's finish gave complete validation to the cheap ass (greedy ass is more like it) Ricketts and their puppet named Jed to keep running things like an independent baseball league organization, simply trying to somehow stay in the black from year to year to avoid folding, sigh.
