*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Jesse Rogers on the pregame said Boyd starts game one and there is no other option. I don’t think he’s in our top three over the last month.

If they can lock up the #1 WC spot and maybe give him a rest then maybe you pitch him game 3 but Horton then Shota are who I would go with then I've even been leaning Taillon for game 3 if he's healthy and throwing well like we know he can. Boyd hasn't been sharp lately and you can't just throw away a start in a playoff series, especially a short 3 games series if you want to advance. Even in a best of 5 division series you want to be able to pitch your #1 in game 4 or 5 if needed.

Cubs Win and make the postseason!
Nice interview with Ian Happ, the longest tenure Cub, only current Cub who has been in the postseason with the Cubs, and who hit a HR today and caught the final flyball out. Oh, and a Pittsburgh native. He was a little emotional.

I think he gets Game 2. You've got break up the lefties against San Diego.

Shota-Horton-Boyd (piggybacked with Taillon)
Need to shutdown Boyd for some to rest his arm. I don’t think he’s one of our top 5 options at the momen
Not sure how much of a shut down you can do mid september, but give me some combo of Cade, Shota, and Taillon in the wild card series
I’d skip a start for Shota and Boyd as soon as the #4 seed is locked unless Milwaukee suddenly falls on their face.

Boyd's next scheduled start is right after the final off day. It would be really easy to skip that start if the Cubs wanted to get him extra rest.

Castro has struggled hitting as a Cub. Castro also struggled during July with the Twins (.196/.295).

But he's been better during Sep. His BA isn't great (.206), but his OBP has been solid (.372).

Playoff success is all about players getting hot at the right time. Hopefully Castro's bat is trending up and his slug returns. Because his versatility is elite.
