*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Boyd has had nothing today and got through 5. Not often you see a pitcher miss so many pitches by 18 inches and not get knocked out. He's pretty gritty.

Also loved the 2nd inning by the Cubs hitters. Seems like a long time since Cubs had 4 base knocks in an inning (plus a walk).

I love watching Nico play baseball. There was a lot of preseason trade chatter surrounding him. Glad that didn't happen.

Agree 100%. Fans love the back-up QB and prospects. So a lot of folks, including myself, looked for Cubs to trade Hoerner to open a spot of Shaw. Shaw's 2nd half power numbers have been a big surprise and Cubs look set on the infield for awhile.

Nico is just such a pro. His approach at the plate and he's such a consistent hitter. He doesn't go into deep slumps often. Pretty crazy he could get a batting title batting .290+.

He's the 1 guy on this roster that needs to be signed to a long term extension over anyone else at the moment IMO. Just solid defensively and been very consistent and clutch offensively too.

I worry that the innings are catching up to him. Last time he threw this many was 2019 when he reached 185.1. 78 is the most he's thrown in a season since then due to injuries.

Yea, I don't know what is the solution. Would guys like Boyd, Imanaga, Horton, etc. prefer to:
  • Skip a start or two
  • Pitch in a 6 man rotation
  • Keep 5 man rotation, but limit starts to 40-50 pitches
Options 1 & 3 definitely made easier as Ben Brown, Assad, Soroka and Civale can all pitch 3-4 innings minimum. But, doubt there are enough roster spots to keep all 4.

I vote for rest. At this point, the only legit drama for the Cubs such as it is concerns whether their 3-game set with the Padres is in Petco or at Wrigley. Any other outcome is very unlikely with just 15 games to go.

So absolutely, give Boyd and Horton some rest here, skip their next starts. Pitch them next during the last week of the season to cue up their start dates for the wild card series. Shota doesn't need the rest as bad since he missed a month and a half. Even more so for Taillon.

I’d throw them once a week just to keep them sharp but give extra rest. No more than 80 pitches.

Tell that to Counsell as hes not going to play him regularly. He's only had 22 MLB AB so it's a bit premature to make a statement like this too
Five pre arbitration guys in the starting lineup today. That’s what we need in order to sign or hopefully resign a superstar

We’re as close to Milwaukee as we are to San Diego in the loss column

The more time that passes, the less the Cubs miss Tucker. I’d love to have first-half Tucker on the Cubs next year, but man, I’m having a hard time seeing it. Caissie and Mo in the lineup for the first time together instead of Tucker and Suzuki, very curious to see how they do. Saw them together many times in Des Moines.
