I don't put this loss on Palencia. Some perfectly executed bunts in there. It's the Cubs inability to score a guy from third with one out that did us in.
I agree 100%. I want Swanson to bunt next time he comes up with a runner on 3rd base with less than 2 outs.

Dansby is on pace to just barely set a career high in strikeouts. Unfortunately the year he set that he hit .277 with a .776 OPS compared to the .236 and .701 OPS he’s rocking this year

It is not about how many times he strikes out. It is all about the timing of his strike outs. I want him to swing for the fence if no runner on base. However, when he has to bring home a runner from 3rd base or move a runner to 3rd base with no out, I want him to do his best to make a contact.

He’s not a two inning guy it amazes me we send the late inning guys out for a second inning and this happens time and time again. If you want multiple innings send out a long guy like Flexen or Pomeranz
Who would you have put out in the 11th? Not many decent options were left.

I wouldn’t have put him in the tenth when we were tied. Flexen or Pomeranz can go up to three. Then Palencia could have come in when we took the lead which turned out to be the 11th. Difference it would have been a normal one inning appearance for a closer.

Pomeranz got us two outs in the ninth I would have sent him back out. He’s better suited for multiple innings. Palencia faced all the lefty regulars that had been sitting. Pomeranz would of got the righty bench guys that hadn’t done much most of the game.

Cubs now a dreadful 5-5 in their last 10. Dreadful when you are competing for the top of the NL. The good news is that 2nd place in the division, St Louie, was an even worse 4-6 in their last 10. Frustrating to have an xW-L number that is 3 games over what they have actually won.

But the sky isn't falling yet. They are still second behind NYM in the NL and in a virtual tie with NYY for 3rd in MLB overall. Baseball is alive and well in the big apple. Cubs still in the conversation as they are just 2.5 games out of the MLB lead.

Still not sold on placing the runner at second base as soon as a game goes to extras. It is an okay solution, but I would like it a lot better if they didn't go to that until the top of the 12th. Give teams a chance to settle it the old fashioned way first.

My biggest gripe with it is the last out going to 2nd. That can be a huge advantage/disadvantage either way based on something as random as who made the last out. I'd say let a team pick a pinch runner from their available players, and them pitch running doesn't cause anyone else to be out of the game, and keeps them available to hit or pitch run later in the game.

Yeah I actually like the idea of Pomeranz going back out after thinking about it. It would be interesting to know what Counsel/Flaherty's thought process was there.

I don't believe the Cubs have been swept in a series all year, and they have only swept 3 series. I count the 2 two-game series against the Dodgers as one.
