*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Only risk you run is exposing them to major league pitching and having their trade value go down. For anyone who may be used to acquire a reliever/starter, I'd just as soon they stay down and hit well against lesser pitching. We've seen some guys lose alot of value getting exposed in the bigs.
Horton, Shaw, Ballestareos, Alcantara are the four I’d want to keep. This is the way we can afford a 500 mil outfielder.

I really don’t think they are worried about hindering development if someone can help them win now.
At some point even superstars need breaks. It’s better to find out early if the young guys can fill these roles. But Alcantara’s K rate is still high ( not as much as Caissie) but still concerning. He has gotten hot lately
For sure. I'm not against them not playing everyday, but I also don't think either has made it obvious that they have no more development at AAA.

Sneaky suspicion Alcantara gets promoted as 4th outfielder soon. He can play center and gives us a second righty bat in the OF.

Get to these 13 before the deadline and see if we need an add
C Amaya/ Kelly
1B Busch/ Ballestareos C/ DH
2B Hoerner
3B Shaw
SS Swanson
Utl Berti
LF Happ
CF PCA
RF Tucker
DH Suzuki
OF Alcantara
Is Berti the backup SS and 2B? Seems like another infielder needs to be available.

You only have 13 spots. If you add Ballestareos long term something has to go. And maybe Brujan proves move valuable than Alcantara but the Jaguar definitely has more upside. That’s why i want to see him up and see if he’s ready m. I think most here are fine with Ballestareos replacing Turner.

Ballesteros played over 400 innings at 1B in the minors. He's not ideal size wise but he can handle it if he needs to for a couple of days if something happens to Busch.

This guy is knowledgeable and seemingly connected. Says Tyson Miller would DFAd.

Miller had a nice run last year after the Cubs picked him up but he's been hurt and hasn't had great results in spring training or rehabbing in Iowa so far either. Doubt he would of had much of an impact on the bullpen this year and he is out of minor league options so that probably plays a factor in the decision too. They don't have a lot of guys with minor league options left in the big leagues so going to be some DFA's coming if they start dipping into the prospect call ups.

Lopez, Workman and Brujan were all just stop gaps. Turner was the one they wasted a decent contract on.

I’m not anti Ben Brown as a starter but he just has to develop a third pitch to take the next step
