*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Hope I'm wrong but this "short term/day to day" injury of Happ has bad vibes of other injuries the Cubs tried to avoid an IL stint with and ultimately should have sooner than later. Especially with an oblique injury those rarely are just minor issues and concerns me that it's going to be one of those lingering things that if he tries to play through it that he'll be dealing with it for a longer period of time than just shutting him down for a couple weeks of rest to heal it. Again, I hope I am wrong but we've been down this road before with injuries and not properly diagnosing or treating them with other guys and then find out later on that the reason why they weren't playing well was because they were playing through pain like Swanson and Hoerner for example the other year.

Offense has been a snooze fest for the better part of a week. Thank goodness we’re playing the Marlins

Brujan. Turner at least seems like a good veteran locker room guy.

Who's the 4th outfielder if you cut Brujan? Lopez? Moises is a better roster match if you cut Turner. 1st and DH. Could catch a bit too with Amaya or Kelly DH. Their bench has nil slug.

Sneaky suspicion Alcantara gets promoted as 4th outfielder soon. He can play center and gives us a second righty bat in the OF.

Get to these 13 before the deadline and see if we need an add
C Amaya/ Kelly
1B Busch/ Ballestareos C/ DH
2B Hoerner
3B Shaw
SS Swanson
Utl Berti
LF Happ
CF PCA
RF Tucker
DH Suzuki
OF Alcantara

I think Alcantara would pair well with Moises while Happ is out. The problem is, when fully healthy, your top 4 outfielders play every day. So Alcantara is going to get about as much playing time as PCA in 2023.

If Alcantara were to get called up, I wouldn't hate the idea of Happ getting a little run at a couple spots in the infield. Not that I wanna take a gold glover out of the outfield, but position/lineup versatility is never a bad thing. It won't happen, but could be fun

I really don’t think they are worried about hindering development if someone can help them win now.
At some point even superstars need breaks. It’s better to find out early if the young guys can fill these roles. But Alcantara’s K rate is still high ( not as much as Caissie) but still concerning. He has gotten hot lately

Only risk you run is exposing them to major league pitching and having their trade value go down. For anyone who may be used to acquire a reliever/starter, I'd just as soon they stay down and hit well against lesser pitching. We've seen some guys lose alot of value getting exposed in the bigs.
