I uh… wouldn’t hate Civale getting a chance at Rea’s spot in the rotation.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. He had 1 solid outing, Liked his results yesterday, but he got away with some bad pitches in the zone. Let's not forget the Brewers and White Sox were willing to let him go this season.

The shared long-relief role with Ben Brown is a good role for Civale to prove himself over the next few weeks.

The Cubs play 10 straight days from Sep 12 to 21. So if the Cubs are out of the Central Division race, it might make sense to give Brown and/or Civale a spot start to give Boyd, Imanaga or Horton's arm a rest.

He wasn't let go from the Brewers because he was bad.......he was let go because he didn't want to be in the bullpen.

So you think that a pitcher who has thrown 10 pitches, has 2 outs, with runners on 2nd and 3rd should be pulled?

There are managers who would make that move. And going back before the 3 hitter rule it was very common to have a very short leash on relievers. But that isn't Counsell's approach. Very unusual for him to pull a reliever except for plattoon reasons.

In yesterday's game, I felt he kept Rogers in too long. I would have probably yanked him after Harris' double. And I would have pulled Civale in the 8th because he was 30 pitches in to his outing. But Counsell rolled the dice with 2 baserunners and got Profar out.

I think Horton is our ace. Shota is solid, but Hortons stuff is just so much more nasty.

I get they are trying to not overwork Horton as hes entering uncharted territory for innings pitched. Wonder if he didn't have the walk would they have let him go until he allowed a walk or a hit. Things are so much different with how pitchers are handled. Kerry Wood struck out 20 in a complete game as a rookie. Probably never see something like that again with a rookie with how they watch pitch counts these days.

I understand why they are doing it, but let the kid go out and try to get a no-no. If he gives up a hit take him out immediately.
