Maybe I missed it but haven’t heard it called a blizzard. Is there a difference?
A blizzard requires snow plus wind. Wind is not supposed to be an issue until tomorrow afternoon, although I expect there will be blizzard conditions for a period as the snow wraps up

It is a meteorlogicial semantic difference and we will likely be edging along the official blizzard criteria. The general public will likely call this a blizzard regardless of it being an officially warned one etc.

"The NWS issues a Blizzard Warning when falling and/or blowing snow combines with strong winds to create dangerously low visibility over at least a three hour period. The threshold for wind is frequent gusts over 30 knots and visibility is frequently less than a quarter mile."

Temps above 32 here in Ankeny still....it'll be interested to see how much precipitation comes before or after it drops.

When does Houston arrive for the game? Would be ideal if we could beat them and they are forced to stay an additional day to enjoy it. Our luck, they don't get here in time and that game is scrunched into the sched to overburden the team later on
Flight Tracking shows they just now went wheels up from Houston. Scheduled to land at DSM at 6:44 PM

This is a major factor. Just because it didn't stick doesn't mean it didn't fall. We could have an inch or two that melt that could make the predictions look wrong.

The bubble just hit Ames. Jerriann just said 8-10 hours of snow with winds that may get to 50 mph in some places.
