So Johnston just canceled their homecoming parade tonight due to the risk of severe weather this evening. Am I missing something? There doesn't seem to be much in the forecast that I can see for central Iowa. Northern Iowa along the border is the only place I see anything.
I don't see a chance for rain until 7pm. Even then it's pretty low. Weird.

No idea … parade was to start at 5:30 so that looked to be safe. Now Im going to have to deal with a pissed off kid tonight.

Its pouring in N. Ames right now, we got more rain today than the rest of the month. I had 2 inches in the gauge before this storm tonight, which added another half inch at least the way it was coming down.

I had 1.1 this morning in West Ames and the yard still felt as hard as concrete after work. It had gotten so dry that I think a good portion of it just ran off. Hoping for another good shot this weekend.

The last 6 weeks took a massive toll on my what was previously beautiful lawn after this spring.

We had our yard plugged a couple of weeks ago, which really helped getting the rain into the ground. We ended up with another .4 tonight, all together I had almost 2 inches in my gauge today.

Mid 80s at gametime. Variable clouds. It'll be a race with the rain. Should start popping storms along the cold front which will be just to the west of Ames in the 4-5pm hour. It'll be a tight one.

I guess the CR area is back in the “spigot off” zone for rain. No measurable rain at the airport since August 30. We had a sprinkle at our house early Friday morning, but it amounted to nothing.

Then we get forecasts of storms, possibly significant-to-heavy rain from Saturday night into Tuesday. I get up this morning - totally dry. Check the radar - nothing coming. Check the forecast - 30% chance today (yeah, no, there’s nothing at all on the radar), 30% chance Tuesday, otherwise … zip zilch nada.

I am glad it’s not 90 degrees any more, but this taunting us over potential rain only to point and laugh and say, “you fell for it, suckers!” is no fun.

We barley got any down here in Amana too. More or less sprinkled for about an hour.

Yeah... I'm in the CR area and was hoping we'd get something... but not a drop.

I'm still holding out some hope, but if we don't get any... I've got a couple trees that I'm going to have to water.

Those of us in Eastern Iowa are trending very dry again. Saw a FB discussion amongst some mets (paging @MNCYWX ) I know that unless CR gets rain this week this will go down as the first September on record for the city to not receive any rainfall. Look for the drought to continue to creep back in.

This time of year, it needs to stay dry. Makes Harvest so much easier

For sure--field fires can take out a crop a lot faster than a combine. 7-8% moisture beans take less horsepower to combine than 13% beans. Navigating roads with the harvest or gravel dust hanging in the air, especially in the evenings, sharpens your driving skills and adds to the excitement of what is normally a stress free harvest environment. Who really needs a break to catch up on those small maintenances details, a little family time, or to catch up on sleep? Let's get through this year unscathed, we have all of next year to worry about subsoil moisture content.

I honestly can't tell if this is sarcasm or if you're just joking.
