***Official 2024 Chicago Cubs Thread***

That is how you pursue a chance at being the worst team in MLB history.
So did Counsell ever explain that play from a Cubs perspective in his post game? Bellinger was basically on 3rd base when the Sox cutoff man caught the relay.

Did Willie Harris not see the ball? That was the worst send I've ever seen from a base coach. The only justification was if Willie heard Sox 3B yelling to SS to throw cutoff to 2nd.

Matt Cozzi of Locked On Cubs was confident we almost got a cost-controlled catcher at the deadline. The belief at CHGO, who has an insider but this insider HAS NOT HAD INPUT, is that the two big names involved were Logan O’Hoppe for James Triantos.

Given how close a deal for a C was to happening, I wouldn’t be shocked if it is revisited in the offseason, nor if that C was O’Hoppe.

Sounds like Angels were not willing to trade anyone contracted beyond this year.

Figured that poverty franchise with one of the worst farm systems in the league would’ve learned from not selling Ohtani that they need a full/complete tear down but oh well

He’s known for being overly aggressive and has already been reprimanded one time this season for a poor send of Madrigal who ended up being out by a mile in a 5-4 loss.

I think Willie's had a couple aggressive calls that backfired and Counsell backed him up. But that send was crazy.

Belly was on 3rd and the Sox SS had the ball in his hand.

I don't know. I'm just impressed that the Sox managed to screw that up.

I tend to over think stuff like this but no Hendricks this series. So he's basically getting skipped. Killian going tonight and another off day Thursday. Does Killian get a start this weekend?

Probably just a result of having 4 days off between Thu, Aug 8 and Mon, Aug. 19.

Good time to rest starters or more likely, just throw the best 4 over the period.

Home plate ump missed some strike three calls that would have got us out of the inning. Have to be better than that, blue.

Feels like PCA has hit that spot where he's starting to figure out MLB pitching. He always had an adjustment period when he moved up a level in the minors but once he figured out the pitching got a hot bat. He's been facing the toughest pitching he's seen in his career so a longer adjustment period should have been expected. The Bellinger injury gave him the opportunity to keep playing through it, not sure he gets that chance if Belli had not got hurt. Busch hasn't been blocked at 1B and been allowed to work through his slump earlier too. Just hoping as more guys get a call up they don't yank them around like they have some other guys if they don't hit right away.
