MLB: ***2026 Minnesota Twins***

Any of the top 3 would have been awesome.

Head to Cedar Rapids this summer to see Tait and Lackey alternate catching.

Ok, we have 2 young guys catching on the Twins now. We have an All Star type catcher ready to suit up after the All Star game, give or take a few days? And we draft a big time catcher today. So who gets traded? I think Jeffers will be wearing new colors in 30 days. Just my 2cents.

It probably all depends what the Twins gets offered for Jeffers at the trade deadline. I see some Twins talking heads say they should keep Jeffers, give him a qualifying offer to get the draft pick when he declines.
How does the qualifying offer pick work? Is it always a second round pick, third rounder, etc.?

Other than Jeffers and Tait, they don't really have any great catchers. Caratini is older

With their fourth pick, a little surprising to see the Twins take a RH pitcher out of high school, Ethan Wachsmann. Might have to pay well above slot to keep him from pitching for WF.

And that is maybe a reason for a 2nd college v

I love Lackey. I like a guy that was pretty unheralded come on like that. My son follows college baseball and early in the year was watching GT because of Drew Buress. Then we saw Lackey play and he was incredible. He’s got some room for improvement catching but his hitting and athleticism are really impressive.

Odd, but they need depth. Bet he is under slot
I just don’t think in baseball you should do anything except draft best available, especially if a guy is a high level hitter. Even a pretty fast track college guy is a couple years away, and who the hell knows if a guy in your system is going to actually pan out, or how long a vet is going to stick around.

Qualifying offer compensation for the Twins would either be between 1st and 2nd round or after 2nd round, would depend on what Jeffers signed for. Realistically I just don't see it, too much risk of him saying yes. This year is a pretty significant outlier for offensive production and defensively he's been slipping as is natural to happen to a catcher around 30.

If the Twins can keep in the playoff race the next couple weeks I predict them to go the Tampa/Cleveland route and trade Jeffers while acquiring help elsewhere Edit: Provided he produces well enough the next few weeks to show he's healthy after returning from injury.
