Kind of a tough spot, FO needs canned but new Pres and GM probably want their guy. CC contract makes that tough but him saying it isn't about the last three outs but all 27 is enough to send him packing in my book where the team save % is barely over 50. 17/35 if we were at 80 % that would move us up 11 games in the standings.

Even if we found a closer this team isn't going anywhere with an offense ranked 25th-30th in most offensive categories.

If we were 80% on saves we'd be at least a game up on the Brewers possibly more depending if any of those recovered saves were against Milwaukee. Saying that wouldn't make a difference is just a baseless negative comment.

Complete organizational failure. They missed the playoffs last year and then the FO put almost the same exact f*cking team on the field this year. Not seeing steady improvement during this phase of the rebuild is absolutely unacceptable. Oh yeah and they’re really boring.

The worst part is that it’s becoming clear that the Ricketts aren’t concerned with much beyond their own wealth status. They just want an ok team that will fill Wrigley at least on the weekends (extremely easy to do). They got their WS and they’ll just keep pointing to that as proof they give a sh*t about winning anything substantial.

Becoming?

3 major base running blunders tonight—-just inventing ways to lose. Oh well, Marquee network has been cancelled.

The "inventing ways to lose" reality is perhaps the thing I'm most concerned about. It's a sign of a culture issue, vs. talent alone. No question the Cubs need some players (bullpen, contact hitter, etc.) but the mistakes and missed opportunities I am seeing are typically cleaned up by the end of high school ball. Focus and execution is pretty much absent.

The double steal attempt in the 8th was a head scratcher. The Giants knew it was coming and ended the rally. I really think a 3 year tear down and rebuild is in order.

We’re in the 4th year of a rebuild now
I agree—-The FO thinks this is a contending team but I don’t see a single player trending in the positive direction and several have horrible contracts. Happ, Swanson, Hoerner, and even Bellinger aren’t getting better and guys like Amaya and Morel are at their ceilings already. The big problem is not being able to move these guys and toiling in mediocrity because nobody will touch their contracts for the value they get back. I’d be fine eating a ton of salary to move 4-5 guys this off-season to help the process along.

To give just a little bit of a bone to the fan base, I think I’d fire Jed now and tell Hawkins he has a 4 month interview for the 2025 team president with zero intent of holding true to that.

I’ve given up on this year but I have concerns that Jed is going to try and save his job and only put us further behind

-Trade Bellinger to Yankees for Ben Rice and Clayton Beeter

-Hot Take: Trade Steele and Happ (waive NTC) to Braves for 3 top prospects.

-Make a run at Bregman in off season

-Morel and Wisdom traded to small market teams for bullpen arms in off season.

-Swanson has short leash at SS

Why should they be? Wrigley is full all the time so they are satisfied and they got their title in 2016 to keep the fans satisfied for awhile .

I went to Wrigley last week for the Giants series and you'd be surprised how many people don't care, they just like going to a game there. I was at the game when Soler hit that grand slam and they almost blew a 5 run lead. Only a few of us in the stands were getting upset, it definitely wasn't a majority.
Fans should be satisfied until about…2124?

Two things just because I've heard them as nauseum here and other places...

-Happ is not waving the NTC no matter what happens on the field. He took a less than market value deal specifically for the NTC because he wants to be in Chicago and has several outside business ventures.

-You can't pull the plug on Swanson (who is performing as the exact player you signed, an defense first SS with around a league average bat that strikes out a lot) and then turn around and tell free agents that you're the right franchise for them. You spent $177M on him not $300M+ and you're getting commensurate results.

The Cubs FO has made Cub fans think that perfectly reasonable deals are giant free agent contracts because they refuse to bid on actual superstars.

Gotta hit Tom the only place he cares about-- directly in the pocket book. Cancel Marquee, quit showing up to games. Until he feels it financially he will never care.
This isn't a spending problem it's a Jed problem. We have the 3rd highest payroll in the MLB and we end up with this ****.

You try building a roster full of C+ players by paying them B+ money and this is the result.

Jed spent so much time wanting to avoid a Heyward contract (which I think we can officially call an infrastructure issue) he didn’t realize the stupidity in giving two average at best corner outfielders No Trade Clauses when he ALREADY had a farm full of outfielders projected to be ready by the time Happ/Suzukis contracts were up.
