***Official 2024 Chicago Cubs Thread***

What does Canario have to do to get a fair chance in Chicago. Feels like Nelson Velazquez all over again. At least it forces them to play PCA nearly daily for now. Just figured anyone but Masterbouni would be the call up as he's done nothing this year when he's been up.

Last night’s game rattled me a bit as a Cubs fan. The roster is full of the “last chicks at the bar at closing time.” I doubt any contender wants any player in our lineup that they couldn’t get for cheaper somewhere else. Aside from starting pitching, I truly believe 15 guys in Tennessee and Des Moines are better than the big league squad.
then why didn't cc bring them to the majors after spring training

As has been alluded to, the roster in Chicago is blocking a lot of talent and several guys haven’t gotten regular AB’s to showcase what they can do. You can bring in Joe Torre to manage this team, the talent just ain’t there.

If Thompson just promises to do that every time I’m all for him getting the closer spot!

Wouldn't hold my breath that this is the kind of outing he'll consistently repeat. He's either lights out or can't locate the strike zone on a given outing. He had 3 bad outings of his 4 appearances in May and wasn't exactly great in Iowa this year and last either. Two years ago he was one of the better arms in the bullpen but after his terrible year last year and his inconsistent outings this year I'm not sold that he's back to the pitcher he was in 2022.

Sounds like every other reliever we have

Yup. I've just seen enough bad outings in person by Thompson in Iowa that I don't have a lot of confidence that he's going to be a reliable bullpen arm. When he's on he has some good stuff but when he's off he's really hard to watch as he either can't throw a strike or when he does it gets hit hard and usually comes with a batter or 2 he's already walked that inning. Coming into this season I even wondered if he'd wind up a DFA candidate at some point as he's been up and down a lot and not been able to string together enough good outings to stay up.

Well yeah that’s why I said only if he promises
