What is this wet stuff falling from the sky in DSM?
A solid inch in Lucas overnight. Weird storm, no thunder and lightening till the end of the storm.
2 inches of rain in one day was a record? I've received more rain than that in a day at least one every year.
What is happening in central Iowa today is what farmers back in the day after a dry june and july would call a million dollar rain.
Some wild preliminary totals in NW IA yesterday (right-hand column). Several flash flood and flood warnings.
For those unfamiliar with the area, Boyden and Sheldon are 8 miles apart, but had a 6" difference in rainfall.
Uh, Sioux Center missing a decimal there? Holy crap.
They had a "no travel advised" in town for awhile yesterday, above the flood warnings.
Real weird summer for rain where I live in NE Ankeny. Feast or famine...we'll get nothing for two weeks then 2". Then we'll dry up again. I'm sure we're behind on rain but when we do get it, it's been both significant and timely. We were gone last week during the really hot temps and I assumed I'd arrive home to see that everything had gone dormant, but there was still a decent amount of green in the lawns.
4.2" of rain this week and other farm had 6.1". To put it in perspective, the local water district said we are still 30" short over the last 3 years. still told to conserve water.
I am at the O in Algona on the map. I got 1.2”. A little short of 2-3”. But a GREAT rain.
