Is this what happened to tre king or is his situation different?
King was enrolled at Georgetown first semester before he was expelled. So he had to sit two semesters. Tried to get him an exception to play the following fall but was denied.

I agree, I think Jelani Hamilton is being discounted a bit by many of the posters on this site. I watched two of his games and I was really impressed with a lot of the passes he made. I saw several that were very fast and highly accurate.

Absolutely agree. Hamilton just might be our “Tyrese Haliburton” gem surprise. Calling it now.

Might be a nice pick up for us actually

1st time transfers with 3 to play are very valuable in today's market (i.e. Paveletzke). That said, Zuby will have some good options.

I think it makes sense to target a post player with multiple years to play. It's going to be tough to sell a guard worth adding to come here. Our 3 backcourt additions averaged a combined 42 points last season plus Tamin will be one of the better returning point guards in the Big 12.

Yeah, Zuby being a talented post with time to develop would be an ideal target for the staff to bring in to complement Jones/Ward this year and start next year to bridge the post position next year and not rush JT Rock to play before he's ready. It makes total sense the staff reached out but other major programs realized that and the competition will be stiff.
The staff will be looking at other C with hopefully 2+years to play but maybe not former 4 star level. I'll try hold off getting excited about the prospects until we get confirmed visits scheduled.

In the end I was disappointed to see Williams leave as he did have potential but from a roster stand point and the fact he's still recovering from his injury the roster spot can be an opportunity to really improve the roster by adding a contributing big for the next 2 years.

I was very excited for Williams but I’m even more excited for Hamilton’s future and think he’s got a great opportunity now to earn some PT, where that was going to be pretty hard to do before.

I am looking forward to seeing Hamilton but I'll pump the breaks on seeing a lot of him as a freshman. Adding Pav and Gilbert to Lipsey will get the lions share the guard minutes.
I was only expecting Williams to be seeing 10-12 minutes most games, not those are open for Hamilton to ease into the B12 and be prepared for a big role as a sophomore.

Don't forget Tre King will also probably see some time at the 5. It's a tricky sell in this environment when there's a lot of competition for minutes year 1 and then almost no competition year 2. Good thing the staff are excellent salesmen.

It really is striking how improved the talent the staff has accumulated in just 2 years that we are legitimately trying to find minutes for all the players.
I would think the staff would be able to sell a competition next year with potential starting role moving forward to a player like Zuby. As much as we and the staff value Jones and Ward I can easily see a top 100 player like him at thinking he can win the starting role early from looking at last years numbers.

Which sucked. Seems the NCAA could have given the kid a break. I hate to say it, but maybe we don't 'grease the skids'. Cynical, I know.

Was hoping we could get him on campus for a visit.
To be fair the news of Williams transferring was Thursday and the staff really wasn't expecting to have a spot thus didn't have the pulse of the portal to set up visits immediately. Just because ISU wasn't an original 3 visit doesn't mean ISU couldn't get him on campus the week after even (if it isn't less likely). It is also possible the staff talked to him and decided he wasn't a fit for the team.

I'm guessing the staff will be very selective with the last roster spot so they may hold off a bit for visits.

And he's big and athletic. I really think people are sleeping on him. I can see him being the Watson of next years class.

I'm not completely convinced that's entirely accurate. TJ knew the conversation was coming and the possibility of him transferring was considered.
