***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Smyly was dealing per the announcer??? 55 pitches through his first 2 innings determine that was a lie.

Fun fact, Cubs have 2nd worst record in baseball of all the teams with a positive run differential.

Still the only team in the NL Central with a positive differential yet will be 7 games out after today.

Now 7 games back and creeping towards being sellers if they don't put together a good stretch here the next 2 weeks or so

I think I could come in and not give up a 3 run double followed by back to back walks. I'd be lucky to get to a 70mph fast ball.

I’m trying to wrap my head around the fact that a resource rich organization like the Cubs don’t have a single player in 2023 who can adequately play 1st OR 3rd base. Incredible!

And is adamant they build their bullpen on the farm and their bullpen is ******* aids

I've watched a lot of clown shows in my 32 years of Fandom but I'm always surprised somehow

Gotta give Ross some credit for calling out the BS that was going on in that game. I didn't watch it but saw the post game interview he did and the clips of some the stuff he was upset about and glad he didn't hold back. Sounds like Hoerner was upset when Swanson got rung up on strike 2 because the home plate up didn't have the right count before he corrected that and Nappoli stepped in to argue it so Nico didn't get tossed then Ross did the right thing and came out and said his piece too to support his guys. Sounds like the strike zone was all over the place that game which ironically I remember watching the same thing happen in a game Hendricks started that was on FOX a few weeks ago where Kyle was getting squeezed on some close pitches but the other team was getting some calls way off the plate. Smoltz who was doing that game was even commenting how inconsistent the strike zone was. It's crap like that where I am growing increasingly more open to the robot ump becoming part of the game so some of these umps that have issues calling a consistent strike zone won't be able to be so inconsistent. Some of those umps have a bit of an ego to them and almost act like they enjoy causing some chaos. Joe West used to be one so I was glad to see him retire, if only we could have Angel Hernandez do the game a favor and do the same too.

As for the game itself, another nice outing by Hendricks but the bullpen tried to give it away once again. Maybe some of the main guys Ross has trusted are starting to get a little fatigue? Merryweather had the rough outing Monday but had a solid one yesterday but he's pitched 3 of the past 4 days now for a total of 61 pitches. Leiter has had back to back bad outings on consecutive days, same with Alzolay. Those 3 have been the ones Ross has used in high leverage situations. The closing of the roof mid-inning was also a bit shady, if the are allowed to do that should be before the start of an inning so both teams have the same shadows to deal with.

That Adames for Milwaukee was doing some bush league stuff also messing with the pitch clock.

Yeah, I dont understand the roof stuff either. I've seen little leagues have rules about not turning the lights on until an inning is over but they are allowed to close the roof whenever they want?

Funny you mentioned the pitch clock, one of my friends was watching the game and texted me he thought they were manipulating the clock at time to benefit the Brewers. Apparently the person who runs the pitch clock is an MLB employee but from the local area so it's the equivalent of the official scorekeeper or clock operator that you would have in every home venue. I just assumed whoever runs that was just some random neutral MLB employee assigned to the game like the umps are.
