***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Frustrating thing is could have buried the Cardinal further by taking 2 or all 3 of the games in this series and now they are looking to avoid being swept themselves. Cubs lead the MLB in runners left on base which is frustrating they are good at getting guys on base just not scoring them apparently.

I still believe Cardinals will win the Central. I think 86 is a winning total for this division. Can't believe they've played as bad as they have and are only 8 out.

Hard to tell as it's still fairly early in the season. If they get hot and no one else keeps pace they could but they are already 11 games under .500 and 3rd worst record in the MLB right now which is a decent sized hole to dig out of. I don't think they have the pitching to go on the run they would need to win the division and the NL Central is not that good this year. Their rotation includes a guy that turns 42 at the end of August (Wainwright) and only 1 starter with an ERA under 5 right now.

Have you watched the cardinals? They don't seem like a team that is close to turning things around. I think it's more likely they finish last than 1st.

That would be awesome but When's the last time that happened? Reds will definitely end up in 5th. Who do you trust to win this division? They have looked awful but have the lineup they just need to get some consistency with their rotation. Moving Contreras will help maybe a little. Wainwright will help more and I think either flaherty or mikolas will get better. Maybe both. Hope I'm way off

Avoided the sweep with a decisive win. Gomes had a solid night first game back off the IL as did Morel as DH batting 9th. Only player without a hit was Madrigal batting leadoff going 0-5

Looked like **** tonight, much like most of the season. Really no reason to believe they can right the ship.

FFS, just dfa Fulmer already. Guy has worst numbers on the team but the most appearances.

That means a clueless manager keeps running him out there trying to fix him while keeps costing them games and embarrassing himself.

At least it is fun watching Morel hit bombs

I love watching Morel and took the opportunity to go to a handful of games in Des Moines while he was here. However, he reminds me of Javy without the glove. While he hit another bomb tonight, he also cost us big time in the first inning by not catching a warning track fly ball. He also struck out 4 times. To his credit, Valdez threw his worst pitch of the night and he killed it. If he throws another back foot breaking ball, like the first two strikes, he strikes out again and ends with 5 for the night. But again, to his credit, he creamed a mistake which is great.

The fact that Ross had him in LF is a head scratcher, and I'm being nice. Happ's value against a LHP is his glove as batting right handed this year he's been horrible. So, Ross takes his glove out of the field to DH him and puts Morel in one of the most difficult OF in baseball. Dumb.
