It was a strange night in the metro. It kept looking and feeling like it was going to cut loose but never got anything beyond some bursts of rainfall. Even saw a little bit of lightning.

Significant shear especially at lower levels.

But that shear was inhibited by a capped atmosphere which lead to these bursts or pulsing as things tried to go but couldn’t grow.

On this date 25 years ago was the snow storm that dumped almost a foot on DSM and other areas of the state.

Agree … the clouds looked really strange across the board. Sunset also probably helped the colors pop out a bit more, but it did have that air of “something is about to happen” when obviously it didn’t. The right fuse to set off some dangerous storms was there but it was never lit.

On this date in 1991 a major storm produced between 1-2" of ice in western parts of Iowa and over a foot of snow in NW Iowa. It later produced 2-3" of ice in southern Minnesota and almost 37" of snow in Duluth.

I remember that storm. My daughter was 20 months then, and it was when Westdale Mall would be packed with trick-or-treaters (when malls were still a thing and Westdale Mall still existed). It was great to have her indoors that night.

I know we need rain, but c'mon. My husband and I actually have a real babysitter and get to get away and tailgate, and it's potentially a rain game *cue the loser's horn from the Price is Right.*

Last game that my wife can attend and we were debating getting a hotel and going to the volleyball game on Friday nigh as well. Everything is up in the air now.

Had a big orange "pumpkin bag" filled with leaves in my front yard in the Twin Cities. Saw it again in the spring.

And the droughski continues to be "extreme" for my hood in Minnesota. Down over 10" of precipitation for the year, just 64% of normal. Last year was dry to but only down 5" from normal at this same point. Two years running and it will start to effect trees/shrub. Been trying to encourage peeps to really soak in their evergreens for winter. If we get a bad winter on top of the continuing drought it might be hell on the evergreens.

No rain all fall, and a bunch of 11am games, so of course we get rain on one of the few mid-afternoon\late games.
