***Official 2022 Transfer Thread***

Have a feeling a T. Enaruna transfer portal announcement is coming. Even tho he started majority of the year, he played sparingly in most games. Just making you all aware, will open up another roster spot.
Just about a week early but still.

I mean maybe for the best of the best, but I would bet the amount of players who make anything close to substantial money from the NIL changes is very low. Guys not having to sit for a year if they transfer undoubtedly is making a larger impact, plus I think the stigma of transferring = bad teammate has mostly gone away.
Exactly, barely even 1% of these transfer will get any "NIL" money.

At some point do some schools just stop recruiting high schoolers altogether? With transfers you get older players, proven production, and a faster turnaround time. Seems like it would be easier to do all your recruiting in the month of April rather than the 2 year lead time for high school recruits. Sure a 5 star freshman might be better than a 5th year MVC player, but there are only a handful of those every year and most of them go to a few schools.

I thought the same thing. Not only that but do you want to take a 3 star freshman and have him transfer out because of lack of playing time behind seniors? It's almost like the mid majors are now the minor leagues of basketball. Kind of the Royals and Marlins of MLB. Sure they can do some damage but when they do the damage the players are going to go on to play for the Yankees and Dodgers.

I don't know. On surface, that seems to me (for the average program) to be the road to mediocrity. We hear all about the transfer successes (and just witnessed a huge one firsthand), but there are a lot of times that it doesn't pan out, and it's pretty hard to continually recreate your desired culture with predominantly 1 and 2 year players. I think you raise your floor, but also lower your ceiling in most years.

Very interesting name in the portal

Stats arent great for the year but he really, really came on for Florida late in the year

When I see a guy is entering the portal, but "is still interested" in his current school.

Maybe I'm a cynic but I read "I am in the portal, I am still open to staying at my current school, but somebody better write a BIG check".

As soon as you think about leaving you've already left.

Except Florida just got a new HC that didn’t recruit this kid.
Florida being a possibility after he meets with other program isn’t nefarious or unexpected

Agreed. Plus I know I've seen multiple guys enter the portal then quickly reconsider and end up back where they started. It's not that crazy to imagine a kid changes their mind to me and I'm not gonna judge them harshly over it.

Didn't infer that there was anything nefarious going on. Just that in the new NCAA reality when a top recruit is looking to enter the transfer portal, you better believe NIL $ will come into play. Nothing wrong with getting paid.

If Florida steps up, maybe he stays. Afterall, he has had a couple weeks to meet and observe how Golden runs a program.

I really don't think NIL realistically decides a lot of it anyway. Most athletes don't get any I would guess and most of the ones that do make some money off of it probably don't make a lot. Big time players absolutely, but I would really doubt if it ends up the deciding factor in more than a handful of transfer recruits at this point.

I am cynical. The days are over where elite players choose schools only for basketball or football reasons- aka tradition, coach, winnability. Reeves is an elite player, he was top 30ish out of HS so he was just below 5 star status and being a McDonalds AA.

There will be schools that will offer a player with that pedigree a nice NIL deal. By Reeves saying Florida is still a possibility is just part of his negotiation. Why close any doors? Just like you or I would negotiate with a current employee if we have an offer from a potential new employer.

Siap. Big time hs accolades and looking to get closer to home, which is MN.

Would love it if he was a Cyclone. Perfect skill set for what ISU is looking for but I know I've seen Minnesota fans basically say he's a Gopher already, and he would need a waiver. Purely basketball wise he would fit in wonderfully as a Cyclone.

If those days ever existed in the first place, they’ve been gone for decades. The money (or some of it, anyway) is just out in the open now.

So you DO infer that there is something nefarious going on. Inducement is nefarious, even if becoming increasingly common.

I disagree in this case. He just got a new coach. It is not unexpected he would open his recruitment but still leave open a chance he returns.
