Let me quote the 26 yo "kid" I used to babysit with what he posted on Facebook:

It's disrespectful as hell outside.

This has to be the worst stretch of winter weather in my life. Just brutal.

Also - my driveway faces north lol. I'll never see it again.

Rolling blackouts in Dallas for the last hour or so. 15min on. 15min off. It's 5° outside. Temp in my apartment is dropping. I wasn't that worried until now....

Yikes. Good luck to you. Get lots of layers and blankets if you have them. If you have pets, curl up with them and share body heat.

Our furnace went out in Feb in Minnesota one year. The first night, the whole family (me, wife, 3 yr old, and two large dogs) all shared a bed. It was around 48 in our house that night. Next night wife and daughter checked into a hotel and I stayed with the dogs. Me and the dogs slept on the couch together with lots of blankets. I was too scared to keep a space heater running while sleeping. Woke up and our thermostat had bottomed out (only went down to 40). Thankfully no frozen pipes.

Had a new furnace shortly after that.

Yeah that's brutal. I got a new furnace/AC put in last October in fear it would die on me in a cold stretch like this one.

Yea I'm not too worried about myself physically. I'm way more worried about the pipes. This last outage is over an hour now and the heat was only on 10min. Not much time to warm up anything

We live in an old house but thankfully has updated electrical/mechanical systems. Our thermostat is set to go from 68 down to 62 at bed time. Wife and I stayed up to watch a movie two nights ago. Only took about 90 minutes for the house to drop 6 degrees. I shudder to think how low it would get if our furnace were to go out.

we keep ours at 68 constantly. it's amazing how hard it has to work to get to 72.

My driveway faces north too. I am now just clearing the sidewalk areas and have completely given up on the driveway portion and hope to see concrete again sometime in May. I’m a shoveler by choice and this year has broken me!!!

Let the water trickle of worried, may cost you some in a water bill but it will keep the pipes unfrozen.

If you look at the electric grid outlook today for Texas it's not gonna get much better. We're so ****** it's not even funny

View attachment 81851

That red line is what happens when the other 1/2 of the windmills in the state freeze up and then reliable power can't handle the load. Texas is in for a world of hurt today. Don't miss the days of dripping faucets to keep lines from freezing or at least bursting when they did freeze.
