A few observations from my neighborhood in WDM - the 20 somethings who all own houses do not believe you have to clean off the sidewalks, and one the one that has someone plow her driveway needs to hire someone who has a clue. The dude has a 6-feet high pile he keeps adding on to and the pile is about to touch the neighbors house.

I found this snow to be rather fluffy and easy to clear with my single phase; though I did do it in multiple rounds. So, this morning I'm clearing the sidewalk and notice my elderly female neighbors driveway has not been touched. (PS we just moved in about 4 months ago).

I've got the time so I start clearing her driveway. As I'm doing this, I notice the snow is really packed in. The mound at the end of her driveway from the plows has to be 3 to 4 ft high. I keep thinking "man, she has not had this cleared in a WHILE."

I get about 2/3 done and she sticks her head out the front door. "Thank you so much for doing that. Unfortunately, we don't use that driveway so we never clear it. Our driveway is actually on the other side of the house."

It was no big deal, I just stopped what I was doing and moved to the other driveway to clear it for her. Was just a fair amount of wasted energy as I had shoveled out that big plow mound by hand. Yay for extra calories burned!

Be honest, how much do you judge the other people in the neighborhood by their snowblowers?

How about those who pay to have the snow moved? In my part, the orange snowblowers (Ariens) were the top dog. So the local hardware store started selling some knockoff orange brand. you just have to watch the blowers for a second. Ariens will launch it over houses almost whereas the knockoffs will throw it about 6-10 foot.

Mine is pretty much the worst in the neighborhood, so no judging here. I'll ride this little single stage till she dies, then I'll buy one of my neighbors' couple year old 2-stage ;)

I’m one of “those people” that refuses to buy a snowblower and shovel each time it snows. Every single one of my neighbors has a fancy snowblower so I head out when I see 3 or more of them out and start shoveling. They all usually come over and help out of sympathy.

I pity the fool who waited to shovel this crap. The sun is pretty powerful today, so it’s already starting to melt a bit. A little crust underneath. I have a blade on a 4 wheeler, so only shovel the periphery, but that sucked.
did one pass early this morning when we were debating going into work still, then just cleared the 2" we have had since and the end from the plow, then went and did the neighbors houses too since they hadn't been done yet. this light powdery stuff was easy to throw with the 44" on the JD.

I was more jealous of my former neighbor who has a V plow on his truck.

My neighbor is somewhat this way but he is just very old school. Very old school phone (was recently forced off of his decade plus old flip phone as they would no longer support it), to take pictures of the derecho damage he used an old digital camera, does not own a grass trimmer, very basic vehicles, I do not believe they have a TV and he only has a shovel. He is in his 30s so it's not like he is an old curmudgeon, just old school. I have recently started thinking of him as my Mennonite neighbor.

I have two neighbors who have the plug-in electric snowblowers and I had to laugh watching them clean their driveways last night and this morning, it was painful watching them try to clean out where the snowplow driver had plowed in their driveways.

We park both vehicles in the driveway prior to snow - then we just let them run while we shovel the other areas of the driveway. By the time we're done snow on the cars is either already melted or easily just brushed off to the side. Cuts the time to clear the driveway in half - I don't care what anyone thinks about the strategy, it's great.

The other end of this storm system in Alabama serves as a reminder why everyone should have a weather radio.

Have weather radios advanced to the point where you can set it where they won't go off for a watch? I used to have one but quit using it because I got annoyed with it going off for a t-storm watch - it would be great if they could just alert you in the case of a warning. Maybe the kind I had just sucked.

MIL was in the Parkersburg F5 and got a weather radio. She wanted everything, hurricanes, icebergs, you name it. It went off non stop.
