Thompson, Looney, and Durant, also Cousins being a shell of himself after his injury. That’s a lot of talent in that. I would hope a healthy Toronto team could beat a lineup that saw Cook, Jerebko, Igudala, Cousins, and Green in crunch time.

Yeah, 4-6 teams in any given year could likely be NBA champions if they add Kevin Durant in his prime to an already elite team. The Cavs were pretty much horrible and got a championship adding a top player through free agency.

Credit GSW for building an elite team through the draft and great acquisitions but cry me a river about one injured free agent acquisition all star when you still have three others, a finals MVP and a guy like Cousins as maybe your sixth or seventh most talented player.

Yeah, I’m just saying I’d take what was left of G.S.’s roster vs what was left of Cleveland’s in ‘15.
Not trying to keep the thread going this way, just giving props to Toronto.

Kawhi is going to have a tough decision to make.

I'd say Toronto won the Kawhi trade

If the Warriors had pulled this one out I would have put everything I own plus a lot on them in Game 7.

And for some reason I had myself convinced they won one while Brett Hull was there.

    And they did.

Positive it is gives the talking heads content pretty much through football season. Guarantee they spend more time talking about GS injuries than who actually won.

Totally polar opposite type of people but it was like the Cubs getting Chapman.
Knocking on the door and needing that closer.

    Probably.

What championship team of the past 40 years (my life span) wouldn't be awesome if things had fallen into place to sign probably the 2nd best player in the world through free agency? Every single one of them would have been awesome, it's boring through that lens.

I liked GSW as they were built and I like Durant, but adding the two was just kind of boring to me as an NBA fan. I'd be curious to see how GSW would have looked if they had played a few months without KD. I kind of want to know if their core without him could still be crazy elite, I think they could but losing him in the Finals is like the chair being pulled out.

Anyone know off-hand the how often NHL and NBA each had a 1st-time champ in the same season? I suppose I could look it up, but that sounds like a lotta work. :)

Amazing run and so happy for Nick Nurse. A crazy coaching career journey. He looks like an accountant-meets-Elvis Costello.

My friend was a D1 player in 90's and rode to a b-ball camp w/ Nick while he was @ Grandview, and stay connected. My friend said he hasn't met anyone else that lived-and breathed b-ball and coaching like Nurse---and would practically coach for free.

Below is Nurse's coaching journey. He was promoted to head coach June 14 2018--- and won an NBA title on his 365th day as the head coach.

    1989–1990 Northern Iowa (assistant)
    1990–1991 Derby Rams (player-coach)
    1991–1993 Grand View
    1993–1995 South Dakota (assistant)
    1995–1997 Birmingham Bullets
    1998 Telindus Oostende
    1998–2000 Manchester Giants
    2000–2001 London Towers
    2001 Oklahoma Storm (assistant)
    2001–2006 Brighton Bears
    2005 Oklahoma Storm (assistant)
    2007–2011 Iowa Energy
    2011–2013 Rio Grande Valley Vipers
    20132018 Toronto Raptors (assistant)
    2018–present Toronto Raptors

He'll leave Toronto a legend and head to LA. Toronto has aging players and will need to rebuild soon. Siakam is gonna be a star but Gasol and Lowry cant have much left.

Refs probably rigged it because the NBA and NHL wanted the championships in Toronto and St Louis markets.

Yeah I don't see it much different than Garnett going to Boston, Lebron to Miami etc.

'You won a championship by doing that? Crazy!'

The NBA in the 80's wouldn't be looked at so intensively if Larry Bird played with Magic.

Marc Gasol has had an under appreciated career and deserved this but you're right that his best years are drawing to a close.

yeah, it's boring. Magic vs Bird is exciting. Magic + Bird the year after one of their teams won is booooooooring.

At least LeBron's Superfriends was kind of formed from scratch. Adding #2 player in world to #1 team in the world is the most boring thing I can think of as a fan...unless it was my lifelong team then I would love it and it would be very exciting.
