***Official 2019-2020 Transfer Thread***

Chicks dig the long-ball.

Plenty of people over-learned the Hoiberg "spacing spacing spacing" mentality.

People tend to forget those Hoiberg teams were very good but hardly dominant, and their main failings were they got killed on the boards and were bad at defense (though still much better than the goat rodeo it was last year) even if they scored.

Yes, teams like the Warriors' dynasty had great shooters as their foundation, but it also had excellent defensive players like Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, and Draymond Green as fixtures. I already brought up what the non-shooting Rodman meant to the Pistons and Bulls' dynasties. I do not get how people reject this reality.

Everyone is aware of Eastern's offensive limitations but as you suggest, they can be accommodated. The issue with the kid is that he (and evidently his mother) think he is a guard or perimeter player but his current skill set and prior production strongly suggest he is a low post player offensively. There is no need to guard him closely beyond 10 feet. If he is hellbent on being a guard offensively, he really needs to sit out a season and develop his shooting range. If he doesn't sit out, he will likely remain only a low post threat, he won't be playing on the perimeter and he/Mom may be a pain in the ass for the staff and teammates.

Mom's on these boards aren't always a bad thing. Georges' mom was great. Apple didn't fall far from the tree.

I am not familiar with the posting habits of Niang's mom but based on what you say here, Eastern's mom seems like the opposite.

It's crazy some of our fans just look at 3 point percentage to judge a player. Eastern is so good we probably don't even have a shot at him and people are asking if he's a take lol

For the millionth time our offense will always be good under Prohm. Defense is what needs to be fixed

No kidding. We would be lucky as hell to make a Final 5 list for Eastern and yet there are people that actually believe we shouldn't even offer this kid. Kid is a player. He has limitations but the benefits greatly outweigh the detriments.

lil' spice on the boards could be fun

I've got a couple cyclone player comps for Eastern:

Zoran Talley with a tighter handle

Don't like that one?

How about Stevie Johnson then. Pretty valuable piece on that 99-00 team who also didn't shoot 3's or provide much on offense. I think Easter's a take

I am not seeing the comparisons to Stevie Johnson. Stevie was a tremendous athlete whose game was rebounding, solid D and being a physical.

Talley ended up being a non-descript player. Good player but not great in any 1 aspect of the game.

Eastern could be a Johnson type of he wanted to play traditional 4.

Which is always interesting to me as he came touted out of high school as a high volume scorer.

I feel like some people on here would rather have a D3 guy that shot 55% from 3 rather than a proven P6 starter who is really good in a couple areas.

This accurately describes Nojel Eastern.
I’m intrigued by his handle. A 6’7” 225lb athlete with a handle can be an asset in Steve’s offense. For not getting a lot of use, his assist rate is high. Higher than many of the “pg” transfers we’ve gone after.

Add in defense and rebounding, and he’d be a great addition. I hope we can just make his new list

Me --

"Hey! How about we replace a bricktastic shooter who couldn't play defense and didn't move the ball with a bricktastic shooter who is an elite defender and moves the ball?"

Them --

"bUt hE cAn'T sh00t!"

Kind of missing the forest for the tree there folks...

So what happens with Eastern now regarding his academic credits? Will he be admitted anywhere? What happens to Michigan with the bolded?

The latest spiral in Eastern's transfer saga comes as a surprise after coach Juwan Howard spoke about him in a late-May video released by Big Ten Network. Since it's an NCAA violation to openly discuss unsigned players, it seemed Eastern had signed.

That's clearly not the case.
