MLB: ***Official 2018 Chicago Cubs Season Thread***

After tonight, the Cubs lead will be 3.5 with 11 games to go. 10 of those games are in Chicago.

If the Cubs go 5-6, the Brewers have to go 8-2 to tie. If the Cubs go 6-5, the Brewers have to go 9-1 to tie.
The Brewers are not winning the Division, and there was never really any worry from me. They better be careful these next 7 days because they are not a good road team and they are horrible against the Pirates this year.

Yea, it’s all but over. Those 3 wins after the Brewers series is what did it.

Would be nice to have the Division locked up by the time we play the Cardinals so we can rest some guys. As one great sage said however. “ It ain’t over until the fat lady sings!”

I see that Joe flipped Quintana and Lesters starts on Friday and Saturday, which is his way of getting ready for the playoffs. Gives Lester a full week off in between starts, he'll go again next Thursday, and then have at least another full week off before Game 1 or 2 of the playoffs. Hamels would be scheduled to pitch the last game of the year, but that will be scratched assuming they clinch before then and have home field locked up, and he will get 9-10 days rest before the playoffs start.

I said I thought they would clinch next Thursday, but I think they get the sweep tonight, and clinch next Wednesday now. With a 4-5 game lead over LA and Atlanta, they should be able to have it on cruise control for the series against St Louis. However, it may be in their best interest to keep St Louis out of the playoffs the way the season series has gone this year.

Switch Rosario for Jaime Garcia and I'm totally in agreement. Already have 3 LH without Rosario and Garcia has more experience and has been really good in his relief outings.

I'm not as worried about the bullpen as, over the the course of the season, they've been very solid. More concerned about getting the offense out of its funk - which the last 2 games have been a big step forward.

That series was very reminiscence of the KC series. After that series we kind fluttered going 5-5 in the next 10 with 5 1-run games in a row. However, after that we won 7 in a row.

So if we follow that pattern, we will split our last 10 games, then cruise to the World Series*.

*The fact we lost 4 of the next 7, after winning 7 in a row, purposely ignored
