NFL: *** Official 2012 NFL Draft ***

Very happy with the way Minnesota drafted in the first round. They picked up two day 1 starters, in positions of need, and came away with some extra picks to boot.

Kalil is going to be their LT for the next 10 years. Christian Ponder's best friend. This allows Charlie Johnson to move inside and further shore up the line.

Harrison Smith is a safety with nice measurables, who excels in zone coverage, which is exactly what he'll be asked to do in Minnesota's Cover 2 scheme. It's a nice fit.

Amongst other teams, I thought the Steelers did a good job by getting David DeCastro out of Stanford. He's going to sit right next to Pouncey and be solid from the get go.

And you have to give the Patriots props for addressing needs and getting two defensive players who should both see significant time, this year.

In my opinion, the three best draft picks were DeCastro (Pitt #24) Kuechly (Panthers #9), and Hightower (Pats #25).

I thought the teams picking between 1-7 clearly got 7 of the 10 best players available and based on need and value all did well.

The three worst draft picks were Tannehill (Phins #8) Irvin (Seattle #15) and McClellin (Bears #19)

I disagree on McClellin. He's going to fit in with the Bears D perfectly. High, high motor guy. Very good pass rushing skills. Ran a 4.63. He'll benefit greatly from playing opposite Peppers. It's not the flashiest pick they could have made, but not a weak one at all, in my opinion.

Claiborne could be Darrelle Revis-like, but with the Cowboys, I bet that he busts.

What would make you think that? Oh yeah Dallas never has pro bowl corners...

One of the best secondary coaches in the nfl in Brett Maxie. Seriously, is still bitterness over the Brandon Carr deal???

But i will make this bold statement regarding KC's draftee....

Dontari Poe he will be the baseline of a draft boom or bust. Workout warrior or not yet reached his potential. Biggest problem i had with Dallas taking Poe was that his athleticism cannot be questioned, but, on tape, he does not look fluid and he should have dominated that lesser opponents he faced at Memphis....wait til he's lined across from someone like San Diego's oline with Decastro....not good!!!!

Good Luck KC fan!!!!

I just think they could have made the same pick 15 spots later. He probably will end up being ok but in terms of value they didn't use their pick wisely. It wasn't like no teams were willing to move up, I can't remember a draft with so many trades.

I didn't like the Poe pick either but in terms of value it wasn't a reach. Somebody was going to take him in the top 15.

Whenever I hear the words "doesn't always play hard" that generally throws up a big red flag for me. Coaches always think they can motivate a guy to play harder but once you've conditioned yourself to check out of games, it's pretty hard to correct that.

Where are you seeing "doesn't always play hard?" Everything that I have seen says that he has a fantastic work ethic and loves the game of football. If you actually go and look at the tape from Memphis, he is eating up double teams most of the time which is exactly what the Chiefs want him to do.

As a Lions fan, you don't here this too often: “Words can’t describe how happy I am right now," Reiff said. "I’m super excited to be a Lion. I really can’t put into words what I’m actually feeling, but I’m excited. The Lions are a great team and it’ll be great seasons ahead."

When it comes to Poe, a good 3-4 Nose Tackle can be very difficult to find, and he definitely fits the bill. If the Chiefs had him identified as the guy they wanted, and didn't want to risk losing him by trading down, then what does it matter if he would have been available 10 picks later? They got the guy they were after. The last thing you want is to do is get cute and end up having to settle for someone else, ala the Rams.

It may not necessarily be motivation, but could be technique. With this guy's measurables there is no reason he should not have dominated Conf USA last year, but he was only 2nd team all-conf? I am not hating the pick (yet) but I am just more concerned about the offense - the Chiefs averaged 13 ppg last year which was the lowest in Franchise history! I understand there were injuries, but that OL needs some work.

I'm just going by what the analysts were saying last night. I've never actually seen him play.

Chiefs wasted another pick on a D-Lineman that won't be any good. All 3 DLineman are going to be first round busts next year.
Can't wait for Pioli to make his certifiable Iowa Hawkeye pick this year to make his butt buddy Ferentz happy. I'm guessing maybe McNutt in the 3rd.

Poe doesn't always play hard. Gruden and Kiper both mentioned that.

It's really hard to tell if somebody is trying their hardest when they are 350 lbs. Crazy pick, though. The Chiefs pass, pass, pass, on NTs for years, and now they pick one at 11? Fletcher Cox dropped right in their lap, but maybe they didn't think he was suited for 3-4 DE.

And now, the softer side of the NFL Draft.
