Year after year March proves the deeper you get into the tournament the more important offense becomes. If you look at efficiencies, the national champion for the last decade has always been near the top 10 for offense, defense not so much. Now that TJ has had time to get his guys in the building I hope next year we can start to become a threat on offense to take the program to the next level.

It's not that the offense isbad overall, but when we really needed it, it hasn't been there for us on the big stage. We win a lot despite scoring droughts, but to get further in the tournament against good teams, we need to get out of the terrible offensive stretches. That start we had was ridiculous. I don't understand why. We looked so tight, so tentative, just not ready to play.

As good as the guys we have that are coming back are (fingers crossed they stay) we need help. An alpa do scorer that can prevent scoring droughts. Hadley come on down.

We can be really good like this, but if you want to be really elite. You gotta be better offensively. We got better, but we aren't there yet. Tj just has to keep improving that end.

There is something to this though. Illinois hit a lot of late shot clock contested shots. Pretty much perfect defense on a lot of them. Sometimes people just don't miss. Hard to deal with. KenPom says that teams that are weighted higher for offense than defense perform better in the tournament.

Defense has won us a ton of games, but we still go ice cold far too often. Especially in big moments. Feels like we really need a big that can stretch the floor

When your three big men(Jones, Ward and King) are limited offensively, it makes it tough to have a great offense. Dishon Jackson should help with that next year offensively, but the defense might dip as those three were very good to excellent defenders.

More physical teams like Miami in '22 & Illinois in '24 are favored over Iowa State once the Sweet 16 happens. Doesn't matter D vs O. Just that you are more aggressive. That is all that the refs & broadcast need to see. It's a show. A money making show. It needs aggression and theatre.

Just have to do both, that's the reality. Our offense just needs to be way more polished.

Hell of a fight but Illinois deserved to win.

I dunno, I think the defense kept us in it. Illinois was well under their scoring average. Our offense and getting killed on the boards is why we lost. How many shots did we miss right at the rim or within a few feet of the rim?
Definitely. Our offense was so out of rhythm in the early going that it put our defense in bad positions, and Illinois is too good not to take advantage of that. Without stellar defense, particularly in the second half, that isn't even a game.

To be somewhat fair to TJ, our best player is a true sophomore point guard.. and compare his offense from last year to this year. It also didnt' help that our all-big-12-freshman had more turnovers than points. This is the same team that dropped 100+ on bad teams high sixties/low seventies against high major competition frequently.

Have to do both, reality is we just aren't there offensively in scheme or in talent.

I think the talent is there, but it's young. Momcilovic had one of his worst games of the season, he's a true freshman. Lipsey is a sophomore. Will be really excited to see the steps Gilbert and Jones take into next year with B12 experience under their belts. They improved so much over the course of the season. The future is bright.
