stormchaser, do you go chasing around here? I've always wanted to do that. But I don't want to die.

I've already told some people, but I'd like to visit all of the MLB stadiums in my lifetime. Maybe I'll knock a few off this summer. I haven't been to many.
You are my inspiration to not continue my history education. These Cubbies, and an obsession with dissertation work.
It depends, it has to be very promising. As you know, Wisconsin has a lot of hills and trees. Trees are bad. A group of us were in the Sparta/Lacrosse area back in 2011 chasing. It was a bust, but we almost died. We we're going up a hill about 60mph and there was a 90 degree turn right past the top. Of course there was no sign. A couple summers ago, I was going to meet up with some friends of mine in Galena, Ill, but they decided to chase in Waterloo. But I went anyway. Followed some other student chasers from Oklahoma I think. All I saw was some rotation, and some nice hail, but no tornadoes. It was hard to keep up with the, they did about 80 all the time. I actually went around a car stopped at a RR crossing while the gates were coming down. I could see the train coming and knew I had plenty of time, didn't want to lose the other chasers.
But anyway, the only way I would chase around here if there is a high risk. I always picked the wrong chases to go on in school.
you chased near Galena? Where? Or just Galena? Hearing that people are storm chasing close to your home is unnerving, ha! We always said if we saw the TIV drive by, to the basement we go.
Actually I stopped in Stockton I believe to wait for storms to fire. Then I went down around the Forreston/Polo area and made my way up through Byron into Rockford. If I saw TIV drive by, I would get in my car and follow.

yep, that's close enough. We've had a couple close hits at home. The year of the Parkersburg tornado we were at DH's cousin's grad party and ended up watching the news alerts in their basement...........Good ole Terry Swails was talking about a tornado warning in our county and said if you are between rinky dink gravel road and this other rinky dink road....that is where the circulation is right now. It was literally the roads on either side of our farm. I was about 15 minutes away and was texting my brother. Never thought I'd hear those road names on the news! They didn't end up seeing anything, but at the worst, my (very smart) brother opened the door outside and said the drive in front of the barn kept getting those little swirlies and the air just felt eerie. Like he could hear the tree in the yard blow one way and then the other. The next day they found a bunch of swirly patterns in the grass field below the barn. So no confirmed touchdown but you could definitely tell stuff was circulating.
I lived on that floor for many a year. I want my left nut back.IMO, history, and history education, are awesome.
CycloneErik was not only my inspiration to major in history at Iowa State, but he is my idol, and I would give my left nut to one day call 6th floor Ross my home.
There are still dead/busted up trees from the Parkersburg tornado's path near where my cousin lives just north of Waterloo. Someone my cousin knows told them that they were outside at the time heading out to the barn with a can of soda. This guy opens the can of soda and before he takes a sip, he looks over and sees it coming. He quickly sets the can of soda on a table and gets his family to take shelter. After it passes, he goes out to assess the damage. Not sure what the extent of it was. But he couldn't believe that the can of soda was still on table, standing straight up. He goes over to it and I **** you not, the thing was empty. The tornado sucked the soda out of it but left the can.
I grew up just south of New Hartford. Tornado missed my house just barely. Went to help friends in NH clean up. One family we helped clean up, their mailbox stood in place, the front and back of it ripped off, but the mail sat in the box untouched. There are still dead/busted up trees from the Parkersburg tornado's path near where my cousin lives just north of Waterloo.
